Instructions for Authors:

Submission of Manuscripts

It is suggested that authors send their manuscript via e-mail attachment to Jeffrey W. Elias, Ph.D. Editor-in-Chief, Experimental Aging Research at the following e-mail address:Elias_Treland@earthlink.net. If manuscripts cannot be sent this way, please contact the editor via e-mail to make arrangements to send a diskette or typewritten manuscript to: Jeffrey W. Elias, Editor-in-Chief, Experimental Aging Research, P.O. Box 83429, Gaithersburg, Maryland 20883-3429. Typewritten manuscripts and all other correspondence can be sent to the above P.O. Box. A separate letter of transmittal should accompany each transmission or mailing that includes a telephone and fax number, and an e-mail address where the author can be reached during office hours. The names, institutions, and e-mail addresses of four persons should be supplied who might be considered qualified reviewers for the submitted manuscript. This does not guarantee that one of the suggested might be used. Books (2 copies) can be sent to Dr. Julia Treland at: Experimental Aging Research, P.O. Box 83429, Gaithersburg, Maryland 20883-3429. Dr. Treland can be reached via e-mail at Elias_Treland@earthlink.net.

Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher. All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten, double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of not more than 100 words. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text. (The average paper is from 20 to 30 typed pages. Brief reports are acceptable. Papers longer than 35 pages should be approved by the Editor-in- Chief.)

The journal employs the style and format used by the American Psychological Association. Please use the most current publication manual: The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (4th ed., 1994). This may be ordered from the Publication Department, American Psychological Association, 750 First Street, NE, Washington, D.C. 20002-4242, USA, phone (202) 336-5500, fax (202) 336-5502. A useful URL for the APA style manual and for referencing electronic media and URLs is: www.apastyle.org/elecmedia.html. Authors should consult the first issue of each volume for editorial policy. Further instructions and an author template can be obtained from the journalís web page at www.taylorandfrancis.com.

Tables and Figures

Tables and figures/illustrations (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should not be embedded in the text but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet. All original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, authorís name, and top edge indicated, and should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:

  • 300 dpi or higher
  • sized to fit on journal page
  • EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
  • submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files
Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first figure is $1,200.00. Subsequent figures, totaling no more than 4 text pages, are $500.00 each. Good quality color prints should be provided in their final size. Figures needing reduction or enlargement will be charged an additional 25 percent. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of any artwork deemed unacceptable.
