Swets and Zeitlinger Publishers
2003

Taylor and Francis is pleased to announce the acquisition of Swets and Zeitlinger B.V. and A.A. Balkema Uitgevers B.V. (together Swets and Zeitlinger Publishers or SZP), the Dutch based STM journal and book publishing business.

Founded in 1916 SZP publishes English language journals and books in the specialist areas of engineering, ophthalmology and life sciences as well as social sciences. SZP publishes 41 journal titles and 100 new books each year.

David Smith, Chief Executive of Taylor & Francis Group Plc, commented:

"The addition of the well regarded SZP portfolio to our own will further strengthen our position in STM publishing, and the complimentary nature of the publications will enhance our offering worldwide. The SZP titles will benefit from our international customer base as well as our traditional and electronic publishing expertise".

So far for 2004 Taylor and Francis will publish approximately 950 journals, 2400 new books and over 5000 e-books.

Frank Cass & Co Limited
2003

In July 2003 Taylor & Francis acquired Frank Cass & Co Limited, a London based journal and book publisher specialising in the social sciences and humanities subject areas. Founded by Frank Cass in 1957, the Company is a leading publisher of academic journals and books in the specialist areas of politics, international relations, history, sports studies, military science and development studies. Cass publishes more than 60 journals and 100 new book titles per year and has a backlist of more than 2,000 book titles.

Commenting on the acquisition David Smith, Chief Executive of Taylor & Francis Group plc said:

"The high quality Cass titles will complement our existing social sciences and humanities lists, making a good fit with Taylor & Francis".

Metapress
2003

In January 2003 Taylor & Francis Group moved their online journals hosting to Metapress, a division of EBSCO Industries. This decision enables us to provide a more flexible feature-rich service, while taking advantage of the extensive EBSCO infrastructure.

Taylor & Francis customers currently accessing content via Ingenta Select can activate their access on the Metapress site by following instructions on the 'Online Registration' page of this site.

UK Serials Group
2003

Following the recent UK Serials Group Annual Conference in Edinburgh, the new Chair of the UKSG is Keith Courtney, Sales Director of Taylor & Francis Ltd. Keith has been an active member of the UKSG Committee for many years and has also held the positions of Secretary and Treasurer. He has been actively involved in NASIG, the North American Serials Interest Group, since its inception in 1985. The UKSG was set up 26 years ago. Keith is the first publisher to hold the position of Chair of the Group. The UKSG has a membership of over 600 organisations from 33 countries.

BIOS
2003

In January 2003 Taylor & Francis acquired BIOS Scientific Publishers Ltd which was founded in 1989 as a specialist publisher in biology and medicine. BIOS currently publishes 3 academic journals which will be integrated into the bioscience publishing programme at Taylor & Francis. Access to contents lists and abstracts of BIOS journals is free to all readers and full text articles are available to subscribers via the Taylor & Francis online gateway http://journalsonline.tandf.co.uk and also at Ingenta Select. BIOS publishes 30-40 new books each year, with particular focus on genetics, anaesthesia, plant science and molecular biology. CRC Press
2003

In February 2003, CRC Press became part of Taylor & Francis Group. Founded nearly a century ago, CRC is a leading publisher of professional reference books and journals and other subscription products in the specialist areas of science, engineering and medicine. CRC, which has a number of well known imprints including Parthenon Publishing, publishes 32 journals and 350 new book titles per year and has a backlist of over 6,000 book titles.

Taylor Graham
2003

In March 2003 the Taylor & Francis Group purchased the Taylor Graham portfolio of 10 academic journals. Taylor Graham began publishing journals in 1986, starting with 2 titles and gradually building up to 10 in the following 8 years. The Taylor Graham journals will be published in 1 annual review for 2003 and from 2004 onwards will increase in frequency.
