Aims & Scope
The Journal of Architecture is jointly published by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and Routledge, an imprint of Taylor & Francis. It was launched in 1995 and is the longest standing, continuously published, international, refereed publication on architecture in the UK. It has followed a policy of publishing material on every aspect of architectural endeavour including contributions by students, academics and practitioners. The Journal is subject to peer review and seeks views relevant to the future of architecture and its reception internationally, encouraging independent critical debate. The Editorial Board, which is enhanced by regional editors in around twenty countries, welcomes contributions from all over the world and has published some four hundred papers, from countries including Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Turkey, the UK and the USA. Papers have explored aspects of: architecture and the arts; architecture and technology; building analysis; design theory; everyday architecture; methodology; pedagogy; sustainable architecture; modernism and urbanism. The work of architects including Alvar Aalto, Archigram, Berlage, Antonio Bonet, Pierre Chareau, Behruz Cinici, Connell, Ward & Lucas, Le Corbusier, Charles Eames, Aldo van Eyck, Future Systems, Frank Gehry, Vespasiano Gonzaga, Walter Gropius, Zvi Hecker, Friendersreich Hundertwasser, Louis Kahn, Rem Koolhaas, Adolph Loos, Berthold Lubetkin, Oscar Niemeyer, Mies van der Rohe, Ryder & Yates, Rudolph Schindler, Alvaro Siza, Bernard Tschumi, Jørn Utzon, Robert Venturi, Colin St John Wilson, Christopher Wren and Frank Lloyd Wright has been subject to analysis as well as the writings of Alberti, Catherine Bauer and Lewis Mumford, Borges, Martin Buber, Theo van Doesberg, Sigfried Giedion, Ezra Pound, Adrian Stokes, John Summerson, Manfredo Tafuri and Vitruvius.
