BUILDING RESEARCH & INFORMATION (BRI) is a leading international refereed journal focussed on buildings and their supporting systems. Unique to BRI is a focus on a holistic, transdisciplinary approach to buildings and the complexity of issues involving the built environment with other systems over the course of their life: planning, briefing, design, construction, occupation and use, property exchange and evaluation, maintenance, alteration and end of life. Published articles provide conceptual and evidence-based approaches which reflect the complexity and linkages between cultural, environmental, economic, social, organisational, quality of life, health, well-being, design and engineering of the built environment. BRI's wide scope embraces:
- the linkages between the built, natural, social and economic environments, with an emphasis on the interactions between theory, policy and practice: impacts on ecologies, resources (water, energy, air, materials, building stocks, etc), sustainable development (social, economic, environmental and natural capitals) and climate change (mitigation and adaptation)
- the (design, technical, social, organisational, economic) performance, impacts, assessment, contributions, improvement and value of buildings, building stocks and related systems
- the supply chain capabilities to innovate, design, create, maintain and improve the performance of both buildings and products
- changing demands and aspirations for architectural design, development and property
- formulation of public policy; research, academic and innovation capabilities; organisational structures and networks; engagement between research users, policy makers and practitioners to effectively support the above scope and objectives
BRI publishes articles of the highest quality based on original, cutting-edge, well-documented innovative research of significance to the international community. The journal also publishes original information papers and detailed innovative case studies of international significance. Well-argued responses to papers appear in a ‘Forum' section and in-depth consideration of significant books is published in a ‘Review' section. All papers undergo BRI's rigorous, highly selective double-blind refereeing procedures. In addition to a responsive mode for these submissions, the journal regularly commissions special issues on cross-cutting themes.
BRI's approach to building research, innovation and feedback is recognized and endorsed for its excellence, relevance, scope and depth by numerous professional and learned societies.
