Aims & Scope

The European Journal of Development Research is a peer-reviewed academic journal that seeks to address the problems of development, whether from a political, sociological, anthropological or economic perspective. The EJDR is deliberately interdisciplinary in nature, and is especially interested in papers that address challenges for policy makers, funding agencies, NGOs and practitioners. We have a particular interest in research addressing important issues that transcend the boundaries of single academic disciplines and development functions.

We understand development to be a broadly defined concept. Although a majority of the papers we publish examine the challenges for developing countries, we recognize that human development is a continuous process, and that there are important lessons to be derived from the experiences of less-developed regions in the developed world.

We prefer papers that are well-grounded in theory, and suggest policy recommendations built upon sound empirical evidence, whether qualitative, quantitative or anecdotal. The editors also welcome critical surveys of the literature.

The journal is published 4 times a year, and covers a broad range of topics in a mix of regular and special theme issues, as well as book reviews.

The editors welcome proposals for special issues, and book reviews.
