Editorial Biographies

Dinesh Batra

Dinesh Batra is a Professor in the College of Business Administration at the Florida International University. His publications have appeared in Management Science, Communications of the ACM, Journal of MIS, Journal of Database Management, Decision Support Systems, Data Base, European Journal of Information Systems, International Journal of Human Computer Studies, Computers and Operations Research, Information and Management, and others. His research interests focus on usability issues in database design and use, systems development methodologies, and knowledge-based systems. He is the President of the AIS Special Interest Group on Systems Analysis & Design (SIGSAND). He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Database Management, and a co-author of the book Object-Oriented Systems Analysis and Design.

Barton S. Bolton

Barton S. Bolton is currently an independent consultant on leadership development, including effective IT management practices. He holds a BA in economics from Wesleyan University and an MBA from Northwestern University. He has more than 35 years of experience in IS management and marketing positions, including those with Digital Equipment Corporation, IBM, Touche Ross, and Giga Information Group. Bart also currently serves as a leader and facilitator for SIM's RLF programs and is a trustee of SIM's Boston chapter

Anthony B. Gerth

Anthony B. Gerth is currently practice leader for enterprise resource management at Infosys Consulting. He has more than 22 years of experience in manufacturing, systems implementation, and management consulting, including packaged software implementations and B2B initiatives. He holds a B.S. from Indiana University and an MBA from Ashland University, and has taught courses on leadership, business integration, and operations management topics.

Paul Gray

Paul Gray is Professor Emeritus and Founding Chair of the School of Information Science at Claremont Graduate University. His current interest in information systems include, business intelligence, knowledge management, data warehousing and electronic commerce. Before coming to Claremont in 1983, he was a professor at Stanford University, the Georgia Institute of Technology, the University of Southern California, and Southern Methodist University where he taught in departments of industrial engineering and management science. Prior to his academic career, he worked for 18 years in research and development organizations including nine years at SRI International. He is currently a Visiting Professor at the University of California at Irvine and is affiliated with its Center for Research on Information, Technology and Organization (CRITO). He is the author of three "first papers": in group decision support systems, in telecommuting, and in analysis of crime in transportation. He was recognized with the LEO award for lifetime achievement by the Association for Information Systems, and the Kimball Medal of INFORMS, He is a fellow both AIS and INFORMS.

Mary Jo Greil

Mary Jo Greil has more than 20 years of business and senior IT management experience in a diverse range of industries, including more than eight years at International Paper. She holds master's degrees in telecommunications/IS management and curriculum and instruction, and a doctorate in MIS from the University of Memphis. She has also served in leadership positions at the chapter and national level for the Society for Information Management (SIM) for more than 10 years. As president of The Carson Greil Group based in Memphis, Tennessee, she currently provides executive coaching and business development consulting with an IT focus.

Naomi Karten

Naomi Karten has presented seminars and presentations to more than 100,000 people internationally to help them improve customer satisfaction, strengthen customer/provider relationships, and enhance communication and consulting skills. Her books, Communication Gaps and How to Close Them and Managing Expectations: Working With People Who Want More, Better, Faster, Sooner, NOW! provide practical advice, and her handbook, How to Establish Service Level Agreements has helped organizations worldwide create successful SLAs. She also publishes a Web-based newsletter Perceptions & Realities. Prior to forming her training and consulting business in 1984, Naomi earned a B.A. and an M.A. in psychology and gained extensive IT experience in technical and management positions. William R. King

William R. King holds the title of University Professor in the Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh. He has served as editor-in-chief of MIS Quarterly and led the effort to create the journal Information Systems Research. As President of TIMS, he instituted and guided the planning process that led to the creation of INFORMS. He was the Founding President of the Association for Information Systems (AIS). At the University of Pittsburgh, he co-founded a telecommunications MS program and a MBA-MS "double degree" program in MIS. He has been given many honors including being named an Inaugural Fellow of INFORMS and of AIS and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He received the McKinsey Foundation Award for a "distinguished contribution to management" for his coauthored book, Systems Analysis and Project Management.

Arik Ragowsky

Arik Ragowsky is an Associate Professor of Information Systems and the Director of the Manufacturing Information Systems Center at Wayne State University. His experience includes working as a CIO at a manufacturing company and as a consultant for manufacturing organizations with their information systems (e.g., ERP and other systems). He has more than 30 years of practical experience with information systems. In addtion to this journal, he has published in The Journal of Management Information Systems, Information Technology & Management, The Communication of the ACM, The International Journal of Industrial Engineering, The International Journal of CIM, and Information & Management. His current research interests are in the value of information systems, manufacturing information systems, ERP, and strategic information systems.

Stuart Robbins

Stuart Robbins is currently the Founder and Executive Director of The CIO Collective, a non-profit professional association of senior IT executives dedicated to providing strategic guidance to emerging institutions and initiatives. He previously has held various IT management positions in the semiconductor software industry and more recently consulted with firms in the financial services industry, including Credit Suisse First Boston, and The World Bank Group, as well as various startups, including Jamcracker and Documentum. Stuart has published numerous articles on IT and knowledge management in journals and books for IT executive audiences, and currently is serving as a columnist for Information Systems Management.

Judy E. Scott

Judy E. Scott is Assistant Professor in the Business School at the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center. Her teaching and research interests are in the area of e-business, ERP systems, information technology business value and organizational impacts, organizational learning and knowledge management. In addition to this journal, her publications have appeared in Journal of Management Information Systems, Management Information Systems Quarterly Executive, International Journal of Electronic Commerce, Decision Support Systems, Omega, Information and Management, Information Systems Frontiers, Communications of the ACM and Communications of the AIS. She also serves on the editorial board of Management Information Systems Quarterly Executive.

Janice C. Sipior

Janice C. Sipior is Associate Professor of Management Information Systems at Villanova University in Pennsylvania. She was a Visiting Professor at Moscow State Linguistic University in Russia and University of Warsaw in Poland. Her research has appeared in several journals, including Communications of the ACM, Communications of the AIS, Data Base, and Information and Management. She is Chair of the Association for Computing Machinery - Special Interest Group on Management Information Systems (ACM-SIGMIS) and serves as a Senior Editor of Data Base and Associate Editor of Information Resources Management Journal.

Stewart L. Stokes

Stewart Stokes has more than 30 years' experience helping IT professionals improve their behavioral and interpersonal skills. He has been National Practice Director, Behavioral Skills Management for Platinum Technology Inc.'s Global Consulting Organization. Prior to Platinum he was Senior Vice President of QED Information Sciences, Inc. where he was responsible for QED's IT Behavioral Skills Practice. Mr. Stokes served recently as Acting Director of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, multidisciplinary IT Initiative Task Force. He has held leadership positions in numerous professional associations, including the Society for Information Management (SIM). He is a past president of Boston Chapter, SIM and is a current trustee and member of the Boston Chapter Board of Directors.

Paul C. Tinnirello

Paul C. Tinnirello is Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer for the Information Services Division at a leading publisher and rating organization for the insurance industry. During his 27 year career he has been involved in all phases of IT and is currently responsible for all enterprise technology including corporate infrastructure, financial software product development and e-business development. He holds an undergraduate degree in mathematics from Kean University and a master's degree in software engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). He is a 2001 recipient of the NJIT Alumni Achievement Award. Author and editor of a series of IT books published by Auerbach including Best Practice Series in Project Management and New Directions in Project Management. He regularly contributes to various IT industry publications on management trends. He has also as a graduate and undergraduate instructor for state and local colleges in New Jersey. Paul is also a member of the academic advisory board for the College of Computing Sciences at NJIT and was a founding member of the Software Management Association. Heikki Topi

Heikki Topi is Associate Professor of Computer Information Systems and Associate Director of the MSIT Program at Bentley College in Waltham, MA. His current research focuses on the usability of large enterprise systems and the effectiveness of human information search. His career as an information systems practitioner extends over twenty years and covers a number of positions as a developer, systems analyst, and consultant. He is the co-editor of Auerbach's IS Management Handbook and an author of more than twenty papers in academic journals, conference proceedings, and edited volumes.

John van den Hoven

John van den Hoven is Director, Architecture and Planning for Noranda, Inc. and Falconbridge Ltd., where he provides leadership for enterprise architecture and information systems planning for Noranda, a leading international mining and metals company, and Falconbridge, a leading low-cost producer of nickel, copper, cobalt, and platinum group metals.

Ramesh Venkataraman

Ramesh Venkataraman is Associate Professor in the Information Systems Department and Ford Motor Company Teaching Fellow at Indiana University's Kelley School of Business, where he also serves as Director of the MS in Information Systems program. His research interests are in data modeling, heterogeneous databases, virtual teams and groupware, usability in mobile systems, and software engineering. He has published more than 25 papers in such leading journals, books, and conferences as Communications of the ACM, Journal of Management Information Systems, ACM Transactions on Information Systems, Information Systems, and IEEE Expert. His teaching interests include database design, object-oriented design and programming (Java and VB.NET), Web applications development (JSP/Servlets, ASP.NET), and E-business infrastructure.

Dianne Lux Wigand

Dianne Lux Wigand is Research Associate/Professor for the Institute of Government at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She has 20 years experience in university administration, research and teaching at Syracuse University and Arizona State University. She has served as a reviewer for the National Science Foundation Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE), Division of Information & Intelligent Systems (IIS) Program on Digital Government, for the Graduate Branch of the U.S. Department of Education, the Fund for the Improvement of Post Secondary Education, and has received federal funding for programs in Public Administration. Her Ph.D. in Public Administration is from Arizona State University with an emphasis on organizational behavior and management. She has reviewed manuscripts for the Information Systems Management, MIS Quarterly, and for various academic conferences. Presently, she is conducting research in information management and e-government as well as teaching classes in leadership in public administration and information management in the public sector. She is actively engaged in several professional societies: American Society of Public Administration (ASPA), National Association for Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA), and the Association of Information Systems.

Phil Zweig

As Vice President Information Systems at Nortwhestern Mutual, Phil Zweig is responsible for the company's data center operations, local and wide-area network services, database administration, desktop computing, help desk support, mainframe and server software/operating systems, all hardware platforms and voice communications. He joined Northwestern Mutual in December of 1995 and has held positions in both the development organization and technology services and infrastructure. Zweig has more than 20 years of IT management experience, in addition to spending a number of years in Human Resources and Customer Relations. Prior to joining Northwestern Mutual, he spent some time in both the utility and retail industries. Zweig holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Statistics and Operations Reseach from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a Master of Business Administration degree from Marquette University. He serves on the adjunct faculty at Marquette University, where he teaches at its graduate business school.
