Combat Stress: Understanding the Challenges, Preparing for the Return
Volume 79, Issues 3-4, 2009

ABOUT THE ISSUE

Volume 79, Issue (3-4) 2009 of Smith College Studies in Social Work presents a wide-ranging overview of theoretical paradigms, research findings, first-person narratives from Veterans, and diverse approaches developed to meet the challenges and needs of service members and their families. These articles have emerged from the ground-breaking conference titled Combat Stress: Understanding the Challenges, Preparing for the Return held between June 26-28, 2008. Co-sponsored by the Smith College School for Social Work and Give-An-Hour, this exciting event was made possible with a generous gift from the Brown Foundation. Presenters included national and local leaders who specialize in developing research methods, clinical practice models, and community-based approaches to military mental health.
