The journal's subject matter ranges from the history of neurology and neurosurgery to the roots of neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and neurochemistry. Scholarly papers about ideas, findings, disorders, people, institutions, techniques, terminology, and related subjects all fall within the broad scope of The Journal of the History of the Neurosciences.
The journal is the official publication of the International Society for the History of the Neurosciences, the World Federation of Neurology Research Group for the History of the Neurosciences, and of the European Club for the History of Neurology.
