The Journal of Imperial and Commonwealth History - Special issue on Empire and Monarchy This special issue examines the relationship between Empire and Monarchy. Most articles focus on the relationship of the British Monarchy with its Empire, and cover topics including identity, communication, constitutionalism and ceremony. Comparative perspective is also offered through an article examing the Malay Monarchy and its impact on the development of Malay nationalism. Philip Murphy's contribution to this issue 'Breaking the Bad News: Plans for the Announcement to the Empire of the Death of Elizabeth II and the Proclamation of Her Successor, 1952-67' has been reviewed in the June 2006 issue of BBC History Magazine.
