INTERNATIONAL EDITORIAL BOARD

Pretexts: Literary and Cultural Studies was first published in South Africa in 1989 and it has gone on to win a national and international reputation as, in the words of one reviewer ‘the best journal to have emerged from the South African universities’.

Pretexts: Literary and Cultural Studies is particularly interested in fostering the development of a truly interdisciplinary criticism, one which integrates the three dimensions of textual, historical and theoretical analysis. Though the journal has a special interest in Southern African writing, it is by no means restricted to publishing work in this area. Essays on literature, film, television and the visual arts, essays which interrogate the discourses of race, gender and history and indeed all work which deals with the politics of representation are welcomed. Each issue of the journal has three sections and publishes full academic essays and polemical articles in its Positions section, and review essays in Critical Resources.
