The Journal is a quarterly, international, peer-reviewed journal that acts as a vehicle for the interchange of information and ideas in the production, manipulation, storage and transport of images for medical education, records and research. JAMM is the only publication in any language to provide a vehicle for the interchange of up-to-date information and ideas in the development, implementation and use of audiovisual media for education (with an emphasis on computer-assisted learning), record and research purposes in all areas of the health sciences. The Journal aims to include an increasing number of articles covering new electronic technological advances in the field and is designed to appeal to those involved in the production of audiovisual media -- photographers, artists, graphic designers, cinematographers, television personnel, audiovisual specialists, educational technologists, manufacturers of audiovisual hardware and software -- and will be of value to the users of such media. Regular sections of the Journal include: Abstracts of recent articles pertaining to the application of image technology in medicine and the health sciences; Reviews of currently available books and instructional material relating to the production and application of medical audiovisual media; Computer-assisted learning - articles on the production and delivery of CAL, including optical media and networks, and reviews of courseware; Reports of recent meetings and courses; Learning Materials - reviews of current educational media, videotapes and computer-based learning materials (CD-I, CD-ROM); a Calendar of forthcoming events; and a Gallery of high quality medical artwork and photography. All illustrations can be viewed in colour by connecting to the online Gallery.
Over the past few years, the use of audiovisual media for both teaching and clinical records has expanded rapidly. The Journal is responding to these developments. We now invite original articles on all aspects of the application of new technologies to the capture, storage and retrieval of medical images. The Computer-assisted learning section carries reviews of courseware and requires reviewers. Original articles are required in the development, application, delivery and evaluation of computer-assisted learning in medicine.
Journal of Audiovisual Media in Medicine is indexed in Contents Pages in Education, Educational Technology Abstracts, Index Medicus, Library and Information Science Abstracts (LISA) and MEDLINE. |
