The relative certainties of the post-war ‘modern’ world with its dominant values and norms of ‘progress’ - industrialisation, economic growth, welfarism, social mobility, eradication of disease, inequality and commitment to even development - have been fundamentally challenged in the last twenty years. Far-reaching changes in the world’s political and economic structures have to some extent eclipsed traditional ideological and methodological disputes, and have led to the emergence of new intellectual agendas. Contemporary Politics creates a new international forum for these agendas to be explored and developed. The journal is interested in issues, processes and debates rather than institutions. Politics is defined broadly to include social, economic, developmental, environmental and gender issues. The journal publishes rigorous analysis and articulation of contemporary issues, controversies and theoretical debates - whatever is significant in theory or practice in a world where events themselves are driving towards a broader definition of politics. Contemporary Politics is primarily aimed at academics working in the field of political studies. However, the journal is also of interest to all those disciplines which have an interface with politics including development, environment, race, gender, sexuality, culture, religion, philosophy and economics.
