Instructions for AuthorsAims and Scopes: The Journal for Specialists in Group Work is directed toward group work practitioners, researchers, and educators with a focus on group work theory, interventions, training, current issues, and research. Submission of Manuscripts. Manuscripts should be submitted via The Journal for Specialists in Group Work's Manuscript Central site located at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/usgw. Follow directions on the site to submit a paper. If you have difficulty submitting your manuscript via the Manuscript Central portal, contact the Editorial Office at ldf@u.arizona.edu.
A cover letter must be included indicating that the material is intended for publication and that it has not been nor is it under consideration for publication in another source. You will be asked to submit a 100-word abstract of the manuscript that conveys the main message to the reader, and for four or five keywords that best represent the main content of your manuscript. Please note that the abstract is submitted separately but is also included with the full manuscript. Manuscripts should be well organized and concise so that the development of ideas is logical. Manuscript reviews are blind—the reviewers do not know the identity of the author(s) and the names of reviewers are not provided to the author(s). Note: Practice articles describing new approaches or models of group work should include preliminary data on the effectiveness of the group. Manuscripts describing group designs that have not been used in practice will not be sent out for review. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign. an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher before publication. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the properly of the publisher. Upon acceptance, contributors are required to supply the final version of the material in Manuscript Central along with completed forms. No other file formats will be accepted. Contributors will also be expected to submit four, four-option multiple-choice questions and answers representative of the main content of their manuscript for use in the Journal for Specialists in Group Work CEU exam. The CEU questions and answers should be submitted as a separate file from the manuscript file itself. Manuscripts, including tables, figures, and references, should be prepared in accordance with the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th ed.). All manuscripts must be typed using Times New Roman font and. 12 font size, double-spaced (including references and extensive quotations), on 8.5_11 inch paper with a 1-inch margin all around. Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Lengthy quotations (generally 300–500 cumulative words or more from one source) and adaptation of tables and figures require written reproduction approval from the copyrighted source. A copy of the publisher's written permission must be provided to the journal editor upon acceptance of the article for publication. Adhere to guidelines to reduce bias in language against persons on the basis of gender, sexual orientation, racial or ethnic group, disability, or age by referring to the fifth edition of the APA publication manual. Also, use terms such as client, student, or participant rather than subject. Illustrations. Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:
Color Reproduction. Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in color art reproduction. Color art can be purchased for online only conversion and reproduction or for print and online reproduction. Color reprints can only be ordered if print and online reproduction costs are paid. Rates for color art reproduction are:
Online Only Reproduction: $225 for the first page of color; $100 per page for the next three pages of color. A maximum charge of $525 applies. Print + Online Reproduction. $900 for the first page of color; $450 per page for the next three pages of color. A custom quote will be provided for articles with more than four pages of color. Tables and Figures. Tables should be kept to a minimum. Include only essential data and combine tables wherever possible. Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files following the reference section of the article. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet. All original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author's name, and top edge indicated. References. Should be listed on separate pages following the text and should be typed double-spaced. References should follow APA style. Please note that the fifth edition of the style manual requires hanging indents for the references. Check all references for completeness; adequate information should be given to allow the reader to retrieve the referenced material from the most available source. Direct quotations must have page numbers cited. References should be listed alphabetically. Be sure all references have been cited in the text. Proofs. Electronic page proofs are sent to the designated author. Proofs should be checked and returned within 48 hours. Authors will receive black & white proofs of their article to review. Color proofs will be provided for art physically printing in color if author consent is received by the requested due date. Offprints and Complimentary Copies. The corresponding author of each article will receive up to 6 complimentary issues. Reprints of individual articles are available for order at the time authors review page proofs. A discount on reprints is available to authors who order before print publication. |
