Instructions for Authors

Aim and Scope

The Journal of Constructivist Psychology is the first publication to provide a professional forum for such diverse expressions of constructivism as personal construct theory, radical constructivism, social constructionism, narrative psychology, and postmodern psychology. The journal publishes articles highlighting theoretical, empirical, and methodological developments in constructivist and social constructionist scholarship, as well as constructivist and social constructionist contributions to professional practice in areas such as psychotherapy, education, and industry.

Submission of Manuscripts

All manuscripts are to be submitted via the journal's online web portal: http://constructivistpsych.org/journal.htm As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items. Submissions may be returned to authors not adhering to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in Microsoft Word or RTF document file format.
  3. Submissions must be prepared according to APA Style (Publication Manual, 6th edition). Manuscripts not prepared in APA Style will not be reviewed.
  4. The text adheres to the journal's stylistic and bibliographic requirements.
  5. The instructions in “Ensuring a Blind Review” have been followed.

Manuscripts should not exceed 5000 words, although the editors may consider longer papers when effective expression of the ideas requires it. A running head version of the title, not exceeding 50 character spaces, must be provided. Each article should be summarized in a 100 word maximum abstract. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text.

Illustrations. Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be digital files and should follow these guidelines:

  • 300 dpi or higher
  • sized to fit on journal page
  • EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
  • submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files

Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first page with color is $900.00. The next three pages with color are $450.00 each. A custom quote will be provided for color art totaling more than 4 journal pages. Good-quality color prints or files should be provided in their final size. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable.

Tables and Figures. In keeping with APA Style, tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate pages or separate files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate page.

Ensuring a Blind Review

To ensure the integrity of the blind peer-review for submission to this journal, every effort should be made to prevent the identities of the authors and reviewers from being known to each other. This involves the authors, editors, and reviewers (who upload documents as part of their review) checking to see if the following steps have been taken with regard to the text and the file properties:

  1. The authors of the document have deleted their names from the text, with “Author” and year used in the references and footnotes, instead of the authors' name, article title, etc.
  2. With Microsoft Office documents, author identification should also be removed from the properties for the file (see under File in Word), by clicking on the following, beginning with File on the main menu of the Microsoft application: File > Save As > Tools (or Options with a Mac) > Security > Remove personal information from file properties on save > Save.
  3. With PDFs, the authors' names should also be removed from Document Properties found under File on Adobe Acrobat's main menu.

Proofs

One set of page proofs will be sent to the designated author. Proofs should be checked and returned within 48 hours.

Reprints

Each corresponding author of an article will receive one complimentary copy of the issue in which the article appears. Reprints of individual articles are available for order at the time authors review page proofs. A discount on reprints is available to authors who order before print publication.
