To be reviewed for possible publication in this journal all authors must follow the instructions below and submissions should be made online at the ScholarOne Manuscripts site for Australian Psychological Society journals to facilitate rapid accessibility of your work to the readers. New users should first create an account. Once a user is logged onto the site submissions should be made via the Author Centre.

All articles are refereed. Papers submitted to the journal must not previously have been published nor submitted for publication to any other journal. The Editors and Publisher of Clinical Psychologist are not responsible for the scientific content and statements of the authors of accepted papers.

Nature of contributions

Contributions to the Clinical Psychologist may take many forms, such as state-of-the-art reviews, research papers, brief reports and clinical case studies. Essays on matters of general relevance to clinical psychologists, including techniques and approaches in psychological practice, professional development issues, and professional and public policy issues should be submitted to the "Brief Communications in Practice" section. A new section for student publications is designed to showcase the work of emerging researchers in the field. Full-length articles should be no longer than 6000 words including all table, figures and references. Brief reports, case studies and student research articles may be of shorter length. All articles should contain an abstract of approximately 100 words briefly summarising the essential contents.

The Editor reserves the right to refuse any manuscript submitted, whether on invitation or otherwise, and to make suggestions and modifications before publication. Submitted papers should be in a final form ready for publication.

Style
Manuscripts should be submitted in Rich Text Format (.rtf) or as a Word Document (.doc). Contributions should follow the format and style described in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed., 2001). Spelling should conform to The Macquarie Dictionary (3rd ed. rev.). For matters of style not covered in these two publications the Style Manual for Authors, Editors and Printers (6th ed., Wiley) should be consulted.

APA style
Examples of citations are:
The theory was first propounded in 1970 (Larsen, 1970);
Larsen (1970) was the first to propound the theory.

Use double quotation marks to introduce a word or phrase used as a coined expression, an ironic comment, or slang. Use quotation marks only for the first time the word or phrase is used.

Manuscripts not meeting these standards may be returned without review.

Preparation of tables and figures

Horizontal and vertical lines should be used sparingly. Photographs, graphs and figures should be supplied separately to the manuscript file in black and white ONLY (no colour) as tif, eps, or jpeg files. Line art should be of a resolution not less than 600 dpi; black and white halftones should be between 300 and 450 dpi.

Review of manuscripts

All contributions are handled by either the Editor or Associate Editor and all contributions are refereed by at least two reviewers. All manuscripts are submitted for anonymous review as a matter of policy.
