Submission of Manuscripts

Please submit your original manuscript online at the following address: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/cmm. Each paper judged by Communication Methods and Measures editors to have potential for publication in the journal will be peer-reviewed. Manuscripts will be accepted with the understanding that their content is unpublished and is not being submitted for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. Upon acceptance, the publisher will require an electronic copy of the manuscript in Microsoft Word format.

All materials must be typed (12-point font) and double-spaced on 8.5 x 11 inch white paper with 1¼-inch margins. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 35 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of no more than 100 to 150 words. Textual or substantive footnotes will be printed at the end of the paper, before the references. Extensive footnoting, however, should be avoided.

Notes and References

Include only references to books, articles and bulletins actually cited in the text. All references should follow the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (4th edition). References in the text should cite the author's last name, year of publication, and page (where appropriate). Examples of reference citations in the text:

Smith (1982) elaborated the theory … Although exceptions have been noted (Smith, 1982) …
Examples of references in the reference list:
Hallin, D. C. (1986). Network News: We keep America on top of the World. In T. Gitlin (Ed.), Watching Television (pp. 9-41). New York: Pantheon.
Haraway, D. J. (1989). Situated knowledges: The science question in feminism and the privilege of partial perspective.
Feminist Studies, 14, 575-599.

Spelling and Hyphenation. The authority is Webster's Unabridged Dictionary.

Affiliation. On the title page, include full name of the authors, academic or professional affiliations, a brief running head, and the complete address (including e-mail address) of the person to whom proofs and correspondence should be sent.

Tables

Tables shoud be clearly typed with double spacing. Number tables with consecutive Arabic numerals and give a clear descriptive heading. Avoid the use of vertical rules in tables. Table footnotes should be typed below the table, designated by superior lowercase letters. A list of captions should be typed or a separate sheet and included with the typescript.

Illustration

Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:

  • 300 dpi or higher
  • sized to fit on journal page
  • EPS, TIFF, PDF or PSD format only
  • submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files

Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first page with color is $900.00. The next three pages with color are $450.00 each. A custom quote will be provided for color art totaling more than four journal pages. Good-quality color prints or files should be provided in their final size. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable.

Proofs

All proofs must be corrected and returned to the publisher within 48 hours of receipt. If the manuscript is not returned within the allotted time, the editor will proofread the article and it will be printed per his instruction. Only correction of typographical errors is permitted at the proof stage.

Offprints

Each corresponding author will receive one copy of the issue in which the article appears. Reprints of individual articles are available for order at the time authors review page proofs. A discount on reprints is available to authors who order before print publication.
