Mental Health and Substance Use: dual diagnosis
Instructions for Authors
Instructions for Authors
Mental Health and Substance Use: dual diagnosis is an international journal adhering to the highest standards of double-anonymous-blind peer review. The journal welcomes original contributions with relevance to co-existing mental health and substance use.
The Editor and editorial team believe it is imperative that the journal publishes manuscripts that are clear, informative, factual, and transparent, and the process from submission to the point of publication is timely and efficient. To achieve this primary objective, manuscript submission and review makes full use of electronic media.
Mental Health and Substance Use: dual diagnosis subscribes to the Farmington Consensus regarding the ethics of articles published in journals in the field of addiction. Work should be the responsibility of the authors and all named authors should have made a major contribution to the paper. Plagiarism is unacceptable and it is the responsibility of contributing authors to acknowledge this work as their own. Where plagiarism is discovered, it will be exposed, and we will decline to publish any further papers submitted by the author(s).
Articles submitted to Mental Health and Substance Use: dual diagnosis should not be under consideration by any other journal, or have been published elsewhere.
Submissions
All submissions should be made online at the Mental Health and Substance Use: dual diagnosis ScholarOne Manuscripts site. New users should first create an account. Once a user is logged on to the site, submissions should be made via the Author Centre. Online user guides and access to a helpdesk are available via the Get Help Now button on this website.
Authors should prepare and upload two versions of their manuscript. One should be a complete text, while in the second all document information identifying the author should be removed from files to allow them to be sent anonymously to referees. When uploading files authors will then be able to define the non-anonymous version as “File not for review”.
It is important for authors to follow the instructions set out in these guidelines. A failure to follow this guidance is likely to delay the review process and result in the manuscript being returned to author for amendment.
New authors are actively encouraged to submit manuscripts. Integral to the Associate Editors and International Advisory Board's function is the brief to assist new authors of quality informative manuscripts to the point of publication, whenever possible. The editor invites informal contact by telephone or email (see below for contact details) prospective submissions and guidance.

Where there is differing opinion expressed by the referees, the Editor may submit the manuscript for a third review.
The names of authors should not be displayed within the main manuscript, on figures, tables, or footnotes to facilitate double blind reviewing.
Mental Health and Substance Use: dual diagnosis aims to provide authors with a decision on publication within 8 weeks from the time of submission. However, on occasions this may be exceeded, e.g. when a third review is required and will be communicated with the submitting author.
