Contributions to Coaching must report original research and will be subjected to anonymous review by two referees at the discretion of the Editorial Office. They are evaluated according to the following criteria: significance of contribution, adequacy of research methods, appropriateness and clarity of presentation.

The journal welcomes original contributions with relevance to coaching from all parts of the world. It seeks to publish work that develops, tests and advances theory, research and practice of coaching. The following are examples of contributions that are invited for publication:

Special issues are occasionally published on a particular thematic or regional focus. They are normally composed by guest editors. Suggestions for such issues are welcome.


Manuscript preparation

1. General guidelines

• Papers are accepted only in English. American or British English spelling and punctuation is accepted provided usage is consistent throughout.
• A typical article will be between 3,000-6,000 words. For brief reports, some case studies, techniques, and interviews, 3,000 words would be the maximum. Papers that greatly exceed this will be critically reviewed with respect to length. Authors should include a word count with their manuscript.
• All the authors of a paper should include their full names, affiliations, postal addresses, telephone and fax numbers and email addresses on a cover page of the manuscript. One author should be identified as the Corresponding Author. 
• Manuscripts should be compiled in the following order: cover/title page; abstract; keywords; main text; acknowledgements; appendixes (as appropriate); references; table(s) with caption(s) (on individual pages); figure caption(s) (as a list).
• Abstracts of 150 words are required for all papers submitted.
• Each paper should have up to ten keywords.
• Section headings should be concise.
• Please supply a short biographical note and picture for each author (see section 3 below for further details).
• For all manuscripts non-discriminatory language is mandatory. Sexist or racist terms should not be used.
• Authors must adhere to SI units. Units are not italicised.
• When using a word which is or is asserted to be a proprietary term or trade mark, authors must use the symbol ® or TM.

• This journal requires a short paragraph of bibliographical details for all contributors.

We welcome figures sent electronically, but care and attention to these guidelines are essential as importing graphics packages can often be problematic.

• Figures must be saved individually and separate to text. Please do not embed figures in the paper file.
• Avoid the use of colour and tints for purely aesthetic reasons.
• Figures should be produced as near to the finished size as possible.
• All figures must be numbered in the order in which they appear in the paper (e.g. figure 1, figure 2). In multi-part figures, each part should be labelled (e.g. figure 1(a), figure 1(b)).
• Figure captions must be saved separately, as part of the file containing the complete text of the paper, and numbered correspondingly.
• The filename for the graphic should be descriptive of the graphic, e.g. Figure1, Figure2a.
• Files should be saved as one of the following formats: TIFF (tagged image file format), PostScript or EPS (encapsulated PostScript), and should contain all the necessary font information and the source file of the application (e.g. CorelDraw/Mac, CorelDraw/PC).

Please note that it is in the author's interest to provide the highest quality figure format possible. Please do not hesitate to contact our Production Department if you have any queries.

4. Tables

Tables should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numbers in order of appearance in the text. Type each table double-spaced and uploaded as a separate file, with a short descriptive title typed directly above and with essential footnotes below.

6. Reproduction of copyright material

Contributors are required to secure permission for the reproduction of any figure, table or extensive extract (more than fifty words) from the text of a source that is copyrighted or owned by a party other than Taylor & Francis or the contributor. This applies to direct reproduction as well as 'derivative reproduction', where the contributor has created a new figure or table that derives substantially from a copyrighted source. Authors are themselves responsible for the payment of any permission fees required by the copyright owner. Copies of permission letters should be sent with the manuscript upon submission to the Editor(s).

Authors are required to complete a declaration of competing interests and submit it together with the manuscript. All competing interests that are declared will be listed at the end of published articles. Where an author gives no competing interests, the listing will read 'The author(s) declare that they have no competing interests'. Please consider the following questions:  

1. In the past five years have you received reimbursements, fees, funding, or salary from an organization that may in any way gain or lose financially from the publication of this manuscript, either now or in the future? Is such an organization financing this manuscript? If so, please specify.
2. Do you hold any stocks or shares in an organization that may in any way gain or lose financially from the publication of this manuscript, either now or in the future? If so, please specify.
3. Do you hold or are you currently applying for any patents relating to the content of the manuscript? Have you received reimbursements, fees, funding, or salary from an organization that holds or has applied for patents relating to the content of the manuscript? If so, please specify.
4. Do you have any other financial competing interests? If so, please specify.

9. Acknowledgements

All contributors who do not meet the above criteria for authorship, should be listed in an Acknowledgements section. Examples of those who might be acknowledged include those who provided general, technical, or writing assistance.

It is a condition of publication that authors assign copyright or license the publication rights, including abstracts, to Taylor & Francis. This enables us to ensure full copyright protection and to disseminate the article, and of course the Journal, to the widest possible readership in print and electronic formats as appropriate. Authors retain many rights under the Taylor & Francis rights policies, which can be found at /authors_journals_copyright_position. Authors are themselves responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyright material from other sources.

Exceptions are made for Government employees whose policies require that copyright cannot be transferred to other parties. We ask that a signed statement to this effect is submitted when returning proofs for accepted papers.

Page charges

There are no page charges to individuals or institutions.
