The instructions below are specifically directed at authors that wish to submit a manuscript to Wood Materials Science and Engineering. For general information, please visit the Publish With Us section of our website and the Author's Charter at http://www.informaworld.com/authors_charter.

PREPARING FOR SUBMISSION
Submission of a manuscript is held to imply that the paper has not been published elsewhere and that, if accepted, it will not be republished in any other journal in the same or similar form without the Publisher's written consent.

Manuscripts may be submitted in any standard format, including Word, PostScript and PDF. These files will be automatically converted into a PDF file for the review process. LaTeX files should be converted to PDF prior to submission because Manuscript Central is not able to convert LaTeX files into PDFs directly.

After acceptance of the manuscript, authors may be requested to provide new electronic files.

 

Arrangement
It is presupposed that manuscripts submitted are in their final form. All manuscripts should be written in English of an acceptably high standard. Authors with a mother tongue other than English are recommended to have the language revised separately. Manuscripts should be typed double-spaced with a left-hand margin, including reference list, tables and figure legends. Mark all pages in the upper right-hand corner with page number and author's name. New paragraphs should be marked with indentation. The SI system, which includes the metric system, should be used throughout. Footnotes and letter-spacing are not allowed in the main text. Scientific genera and taxa of lower rank should be written in italics.

Each manuscript component should begin on a new page, in this sequence: Title page, Abstract and Key words, Text, Acknowledgements, References, Tables, Figure legends, Figures.

Title page
The title page should contain; title of paper, running headline (max 50 characters), all authors' first and last names and addresses, and telephone, fax and e-mail of the corresponding author. The main title should contain the words necessary for correct indexing (species names in Latin). Titles should be as brief as clarity permits.

Abstract and Key words
The manuscript should open with an abstract not exceeding 200 words. Problem, methods employed and main results should be stated. Key words, in alphabetic order, should be carefully selected, since they will be used for indexing purposes in relevant databases.

Text
The following headings should normally be used: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion.

The Introduction should provide a general orientation of the subject and present the reasons for and aims of the study. It should be concisely written. Materials and methods must provide information enough to permit exact replication of the experimental work. The models underlying any statistical analysis must be clearly stated. Results should be clear, concise and as objective as possible. No discussion of the results is permitted in this section. Indicate on separate lines the approximate position of figures and tables. Discussion should not repeat results, but in a logical way interpret the main results with reference to relevant figures, tables and references. The discussion should be concisely written and end with conclusions.

References
All references cited in the text are to be listed at the end of the paper in alphabetical order under the name of the first author. If there are more than six authors, list the first six authors and use 'et al.' References should only be made to published and available material.

BOOK

Citations in the text should be made by author and date in parentheses. If there are two authors, both should be named, e.g. (Mityga & Lanphear, 1971). If an article with more than two authors is cited, only the first author's name plus 'et al.' should be given, e.g. (Hutchinson et al., 1986).

Tables
Each table should be numbered with an explanatory heading, and written on a separate sheet. The tables must be planned to fit to a final width of 8 or 16.6 cm.

Figures
Submit unmounted illustrations as electronic files or high quality printouts. Half tone and colour photos should be professionally drawn or photographed but computer-drawn figures are also accepted provided they are of high quality. Photomicrographs must have internal scale markers, and symbols, arrows or letters should contrast with the background. Figure number and arrow indicating 'top' should be indicated on the back of the illustrations. Costs for colour illustrations must be borne by the authors (USD 750/page).

Please keep illustrations as separate files, preferably as EPS or TIFF. The colour must be CMYK, not RGB; all fonts must be embedded, and the resolution of images should be of a quality suitable for printing; i.e. files downloaded from web pages are not suitable, they will look acceptable on screen but not when printed. Do not use colour files if black and white only output is required.

Offprints
Offprints can be ordered on the offprint order form sent out with the page proofs in the form of a PDF.

Copyright and authors' rights

It is a condition of publication that authors assign copyright or license the publication rights in their articles, including abstracts, to Taylor & Francis. This enables us to ensure full copyright protection and to disseminate the article, and of course the Journal, to the widest possible readership in print and electronic formats as appropriate. Authors retain many rights under the Taylor & Francis rights policies, which can be found at www.informaworld.com/authors_journals_copyright_position. Authors are themselves responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyright material from other sources.

Exceptions are made for authors of Crown or US Government employees whose policies require that copyright cannot be transferred to other parties. We ask that a signed statement to this effect is submitted when returning proofs for accepted papers.
