Instructions for Authors
Instructions for Authors
Manuscripts between 4000 and 6000 words describing original research should be submitted via the Journal's Manuscript Central (http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/lmat).
All pages should be numbered. To allow anonymous refereeing, all submissions must be properly formatted for blind reviewing. Authors' names and institutions should be provided in a separate file, which will be submitted alongside the manuscript. The full postal and email address of the author who will check proofs and receive correspondence and offprints should also be included.
All submissions should be accompanied by an abstract. An abstract is a short paragraph (up to 150 words) that summarises the article. Readers decide whether or not to read the article based on the abstract; for this reason it is important to mention any distinctive, unexpected or unusual elements of the work. An abstract should include a statement of the research area or problem; a couple of sentences explaining the approach taken in the paper (e.g. specifying the methodology if the paper is empirical, including where it was conducted, the participants or sample involved and the analytic approaches used); the main conclusions drawn; and any implications for research, policy or practice.
All cover sheets submitted should also include short biographical details of each author for 'Notes on Contributors'.
Typescripts accepted for publication may be subject to copy-editing and editorial abridgement or other alterations as necessary, and all contributions will be peer-reviewed before acceptance for publication.
Articles should be no longer than 2,000 words in length. Please submit viewpoints articles via Manuscript Central (http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/lmat), clearly indicating that it is for consideration in the 'Viewpoints' section.
Book reviews.
Reviews, which are normally 500-1,500 words, are intended to help readers assess the quality of the book and how appropriate it might be for use in their situation; they are intended to help readers to decide whether they would find it worthwhile to purchase a copy. Reviews should give a good account of the contents and design i.e. how easy is it to use and what editorial aids such as summaries etc. are included. The book should be put in context with other similar publications or publishing genres such (e.g. Œmedia study textbooks¹). Reference to your own experience is valuable and welcome but the focus should be on the book and author in question.
Criticism should be fair and justified, but should not be withheld for the sake of sensitivity. Likewise praise is welcome, but should not be without evidence.
Please remember to include complete references including page numbers for quotes from the book. Note that accepted reviews may be subject to copy editing and editorial abridgement or other alterations as necessary.
