Papers should be original, but if there is overlap with material published elsewhere, details should be given.

All submissions should be made online at the International Journal of Research and Method in Education Manuscript Central site. New users should first create an account. Once a user is logged onto the site submissions should be made via the Author Centre.

Authors should prepare and upload two versions of their manuscript. One should be a complete text, while in the second all document information identifying the author should be removed from files to allow them to be sent anonymously to referees. When uploading files authors will then be able to define the non-anonymous version as “File not for review”. Papers should normally be around 5000 words in length, but longer or shorter articles will be considered.

Manuscripts should be double spaced with a wide margin to the left. All pages should be numbered. To allow anonymous refereeing, all submissions must be properly formatted for blind reviewing (see Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 5th edition, 2001, for instructions). Authors' names and institutions should be typed on a separate page and submitted with the manuscript. The full postal and email address of the author who will check proofs and receive correspondence and offprints should also be included.

Tables and captions for illustrations. Tables must be typed out on separate pages and not included as part of the text. The captions for illustrations should be gathered together and also typed out on a separate page. Tables and Figures should be numbered consecutively by Arabic numerals. The approximate position of tables and figures should be indicated in the manuscript. Captions should include keys to any symbols used.

Figures. Please supply one set of artwork in a finished form, suitable for reproduction. Figures will not normally be redrawn by the publisher.

Citations of other work should be limited to those strictly necessary for the argument. Any quotations should be brief, and accompanied by precise references.

Electronic Processing

• We welcome figures sent electronically, but care and attention to these guidelines are essential as importing graphics packages can often be problematic.
• Figures must be saved individually and separate from the text. Please do not embed figures in the paper file.
• Figure quality must be at least 300 dpi for halftones and 600 dpi for line drawings.
• Avoid the use of colour and tints for purely aesthetic reasons.
• Figures should be produced as near to the finished size as possible.
• All figures must be numbered in the order in which they appear in the paper (e.g. figure 1, figure 2). In multi-part figures, each part should be labelled (e.g. figure 1(a), figure 1(b)).
• Figure captions must be saved separately, as part of the file containing the complete text of the paper, and numbered correspondingly.

Please note that it is in the author's interest to provide the highest quality figure format possible. Please do not hesitate to contact our Production Department if you have any queries.

Proofs will be sent to authors by email if there is sufficient time to do so. They should be corrected and returned to the Publisher within three days. Major alterations to the text cannot be accepted.
