Journal Details
International Journal of Optomechatronics
Instructions for Authors
Aims and Scope
The International Journal of Optomechatronics is a multidisciplinary forum for the publication of the latest research results in the integrated field of optomechatronics which combines optical, mechanical, and electrical engineering. Peer-reviewed articles focus on the interaction between those fields, but also on the analysis and design of these integrated systems. The journal covers various aspects of the fundamental engineering principles of integrating optics/photonics and mechatronics. The aspects include the interaction phenomena between optics and mechatronics, the nature of the integration combining the functions of optical, mechanical, and electronic elements, the functional behavior of the integrated devices and systems, optomechatronic interfaces and embedded characteristics, and application of optomechatronics to create innovative functionalities for new and advanced systems.
Topics covered will include:
- adaptive optics
- adaptive/tunable optical devices
- machine vision/optical imaging
- laser optics
- optical-based sensors and sensor fusion
- optical modulation
- micro/nano manipulation
- optical systems control
- visual motion tracking and control
- optics for optomechatronic system design
- laser processing
- optical metrology
- fiber optics
- optical-based inspection and fault diagnosis
- micro opto-electro-mechanical systems
- micro/nano components and devices
- optical assembly and packaging
- optical and vision-based manufacturing, processes, monitoring and control
- optical applications in biosystems, robotic fields, and mechatronic systems
- sensors and actuators
Submissions from all technology fields related to optomechatronics will be welcome.
Manuscript Submission
Authors must submit manuscripts electronically in PDF format via http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/uopt for the review process. All figures and tables should be included in the same file at the end of the paper (not embedded within the text), with a separate list of figures (all legends or captions) and list of tables. Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. Upon acceptance of a manuscript, electronic files should be submitted using MS Word, WordPerfect, or LaTex and should be clearly labeled with the authors' names, file name, and software program. If using LaTex, please provide a PDF copy of the paper as well. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.
All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten, double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of not more than 100 words; avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and direct reference to the text. All authors' names should be listed in full. (e.g., Hyunki Lee, Deokhwa Hong)
Nomenclature.
The nomenclature list should be in alphabetical order with Greek symbols following the alphabetical listing. Subscripts and superscripts should follow Greek symbols and should be identified with a heading. Units should be included only when necessary for the understanding of the textual material. More than 16 symbols are suggested in the list, if they are used in the text. To indicate units involving fractions, slashes should be used (e.g., k thermal conductivity, W/m x C, r density, kg/m3).
References
References should be cited in the text by surnames of author and date (e.g., only one author: Smith, 1983, two authors: Smith and Lee, 1983, over three authors: Smith et al. 1983). If more than two papers are cited consecutively in the text, use a semi-colon between the two. (e.g., Smith et al. 1983; Smith and Lee 1984). All authors' names appearing in the reference should be listed in full. Prepare the reference list in accordance with the Chicago Manual of Style, 15th edition.

Illustrations
Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be high-quality digital files that follow these guidelines:
- 300 dpi or higher (at least 600 dpi for line art)
- sized to fit on journal page (at least 26 pica in width), type: a minimum of 18 pixels, line weights: at least 6 pixels
- EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only (can be compressed using Winzip)
Figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate files using the following naming convention: manuscript number, figure number and file format extension (e.g., IJO07 001 fig1.tif). A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled (e.g., (a), (b)), taking into account necessary size reduction. Low-resolution art is not acceptable for production. Captions should be typed, double-spaced in a separate Word file.
Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first page with color is $900.00. The next three pages with color are $450.00 each. A custom quote will be provided for color art totaling more than 4 journal pages. Good-quality color files or prints should be provided in their final size. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable.
Tables and Figures
Tables and figures (illustrations) should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet.
Proofs
Page proofs are sent to the designated author. They must be carefully checked and returned within 48 hours of receipt.
Offprints
The corresponding author of each article will receive one complete copy of the issue in which the article appears. Offprints or reprints of an individual article may be ordered from Taylor & Francis. A link to the ordering form is included at the proof stage.
