Instructions for Authors
INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS
The Journal's aim is to publish original scientific and scholarly contributions in the area of dual diagnosis (i.e., involving psychiatric and substance use disorders), including psychiatry, psychological medicine, related basic sciences (neurosciences, biological, psychological, and social sciences) and health services aspects of dual diagnosis. The Journal will accept original papers, opinion articles, comprehensive reviews, editorials, and clinical case reports. Editorial and review articles are usually invited.
Manuscript Format. Manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with the guidelines of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (http://www.icmje.org/). The page following the title page should carry an Abstract followed by a list of three (3) to ten (10) Key Words. The Abstract, up to 200 words, should state specifically the main purposes, procedures, findings and conclusions of the study, emphasizing what is new or important. For original papers, brief research reports, and review articles, use the headings Objectives, Methods, Results (Findings for review articles) and Conclusions. Under the Abstract heading of Method, include wherever applicable the study design, setting, patients/participants (selection criteria, description), interventions, observational and analytical methods and main outcome measures. (For review articles it will be important to specify the methods of literature search and selection). Under the Abstract heading of Results, give the most important specific data together with their statistical significance.
Manuscripts should be typed with font style Times New Roman, font size 12. Page numbers must be included. Manuscripts may be approximately 5-25 typed pages double-spaced (including references and abstract). Lengthier manuscripts may be considered, but only at the discretion of the editor.
References. Timely references should highlight the study's relevance within the past 5 years. References, citations, and general style of manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with the APA Publication Manual, 4th ed. Cite in the text by author and date (Smith, 1983) and include an alphabetical list at the end of the article.

Illustrations. Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:
- 300 dpi or higher
- Sized to fit on journal page
- EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
- Submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files
Color Illustrations. Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in color art reproduction. Color art can be purchased for online only reproduction or for print + online reproduction. Color reprints can only be ordered if print + online reproduction costs are paid. Rates for color art reproduction are: Online Only Reproduction: $225 for the first page of color; $100 per page for the next three pages of color. A maximum charge of $525 applies. Print + Online Reproduction: $900 for the first page of color; $450 per page for the next three pages of color. A custom quote will be provided for articles with more than four pages of color.
Tables and Figures. Tables and figures (illustrations) should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet.
Proofs. Page proofs are sent to the designated author using Taylor & Francis' Central Article Tracking System (CATS). They must be carefully checked and returned within 48 hours of receipt.
Reprints and Issues. Reprints of individual articles are available for order at the time authors review page proofs. A discount on reprints is available to authors who order before print publication. Each corresponding author will receive 3 complete issues in which the article publishes and a complimentary PDF. This file is for personal use only and may not be copied and disseminated in any form without prior written permission from Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.
Authorship Certification/Conflict of Interest and Financial Support/Legal/Ethical Statement. The corresponding author is required to sign Part A, B, and C (Authorship Certification, Legal/Ethical Statement, and Conflict of Interest and Financial Support Disclosure). In addition, all authors are required to sign Part C (Conflict of Interest and Financial Support Disclosure) listing all potential conflicts and financial support. These forms can be obtained at www.informaworld.com (search for “Journal of Dual Diagnosis”, then download from first link under the “Instructions to Authors” tab) should be sent with the original submission.
b) all authors take full responsibility for ensuring the work's integrity,
c) none of the original material contained in the manuscript has been submitted for consideration, nor will be published elsewhere, other than in abstract form, and
d) the manuscript will become the property of the journal while under review, and when or if the manuscript is accepted for publication.
Requirements for authorship are: substantial contribution to conception, design, gathering, analysis and/or interpretation of data and contribution to the writing and intellectual content of the article. Electronic submission of the manuscript and cover letter are to be sent directly to the Editorial Assistant, Ms. Karen LaFontaine, at klafontaine@mcg.edu. Please ensure that all contact details are included for future correspondence. Provide on the submission a list of five to six experts who are knowledgeable in the submitted manuscript's area and have an unbiased review of the authors' work. Please do not list colleagues close to the author, collaborators, or family members of the author. Please provide the first and last name, the email address, and the Institution of the reviewer suggested. All papers are subject to peer review by a Review Editor (member of the Editorial Board of Review Editors) the Editor, and/or one to three invited referees. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher.
