Instructions for Authors
The Journal of Media and Religion addresses the question of how religion as a social and cultural phenomenon broadens understanding of mass communication in society. It is a forum for scholars, media professionals, and theologians to discussmedia and religion from a social science viewpoint. The journal examines a full range of religious traditions (e.g., Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Eastern religious philosophies, and new/alternative religious movements). Articles reflect institutional, content, audience, cultural, political, and technological perspectives. The journal will discuss implications of the relationship between religion and mass media, generate theory about the nature and behavior of religious audiences, explore the social and cultural impact of religious involvement in public discourse about media, and provide a central forum for scholarly discussion in a number of relevant fields.
Submission: Submit an electronic word file of the entire manuscript via e-mail to Daniel A. Stout, Editor, Journal of Media and Religion (e-mail: daniel.stout@unlv.edu). All articles, with the exception of the book reviews and commentaries, will be peer reviewed through a blind-review process.
Authors should also send an electronic Word file of the entire article via e-mail in addition to the hardcopies. Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher.Articles submitted to the Journal of Media and Religion undergo editorial screening and peer review.
Manuscript Preparation: Manuscripts should be prepared according to the guidelines of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed.). Double space all material and place in the following order: title page, abstract, text, acknowledgments, references, appendixes, footnotes, tables, and figures. The title page should include the title of the manuscript; names and affiliations of all authors; name, mailing address, e-mail address, and telephone and fax numbers of the corresponding author; and a running head of no more than 48 letters and spaces.
The second page should include the manuscript title and an abstract of no more than 150words. Number all manuscript pages, including the figures. All figures must be camera-ready, black-and-white originals. Typically, manuscripts should not exceed 6,000 words or 25 double-spaced pages not including references.
Illustrations: Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:

Color Illustrations. Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in color art reproduction. Color art can be purchased for online only conversion and reproduction or for print C online reproduction. Color reprints can only be ordered if print C online reproduction costs are paid. Rates for color art reproduction are: Online Only Reproduction: $225 for the first page of color; $100 per page for the next three pages of color. A maximum charge of $525 applies. Print C Online Reproduction: $900 for the first page of color; $450 per page for the next three pages of color. A custom quote will be provided for articles with more than 4 pages of color. Art not supplied at a minimum of 300 dpi will not be considered for print.
Tables and Figures: A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction.
Proofs and Reprints: Page proofs are sent to the designated author using Taylor & Francis' Central Article Tracking System (CATS). They must be carefully checked and returned within 48 hours of receipt. Reprints of individual articles are available for order at the time authors review page proofs. A discount on reprints is available to authors who order before print publication.
