Instructions for Authors

Submission of Manuscripts:

A high-density computer disk (PC or Mac) of your manuscript should be submitted to Kirkland C. Vaughans, 66 Lincoln Avenue, Wyandanch, NY 11798. (Do not send certified mail.) The disk should be clearly labeled with author name, article title, and name of word processing program used. Only original manuscripts are considered. Manuscripts are accepted for review with the understanding that they are not being submitted elsewhere. Authors should retain a copy of the manuscript. Except as noted below, disks will not be returned.

Manuscript Preparation:

All components of the manuscript (including abstract, text, quoted passages, footnotes, and references) must be double-spaced, 25 lines to a page, 60 characters to a line, and printed in a nonproportional (Courier 10) typeface. A standard manuscript page is considered to contain no more than 1,500 characters and should not use a proportional typeface (e.g. Times). Submissions should be limited to 30 standard manuscript pages.

The first page of the article should contain author name(s) and degree(s), title of article, and two-sentence “bio” consisting of current affiliations and positions held. The second page should contain a double-spaced abstract of 150 to 200 words. The final pages are reserved for references to all works cited in the text. Mailing and email addresses should be typed (double-spaced) at the left margin after the references.

Style:

In the manner of most psychoanalytic journals, text references follow the author-date system, e.g. (Smith, 1978), and are cited within the text, not as footnotes or endnotes. Multiple text references are listed chronologically, not alphabetically. Every text citation must have its corresponding reference listing (on a separate page at the end of the article); the reference list should contain publication information about only sources cited in the text.

Quotations must be followed by their source page numbers in parentheses, e.g., (p. 120); a quotation of more than five typewritten lines is typeset as an extract and should be typed as an independent block, double-spaced. A detailed style sheet for final preparation of reference lists will be sent to authors of manuscripts accepted for publication.

Manuscripts that do not conform to proper manuscript preparation and style requirements will be returned.

Illustrations

Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines: 300 dpi or higher; sized to fit on journal page; EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only; submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files.

Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first page with color is $900.00. The next three pages with color are $450.00 each. A custom quote will be provided for color art totaling more than 4 journal pages. Good-quality color prints should be provided in their final size. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable.

Permission:

Authors are responsible for all statements made in their work and for obtaining permission from copyright holders to reprint or adapt tables or figures or to reprint substantial passages from previously published works. Authors should write to the original publisher to request nonexclusive world rights in all languages in order to use the material being reprinted.

Proofs and Reprints:

Page proofs are sent to the designated author using Taylor & Francis' Central Article Tracking System (CATS). They must be carefully checked and returned within 48 hours of receipt. Reprints of individual articles are available for order at the time authors review page proofs. A discount on reprints is available to authors who order before print publication.
