Instructions for Authors

Submission of Manuscripts

Geopolitics
receives all manuscript submissions electronically via their ScholarOne Manuscripts website located at:
http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/FGEO.

ScholarOne Manuscripts allows for rapid submission of original and revised manuscripts, as well as facilitating the review process and internal communication between authors, editors and reviewers via a web-based platform. For ScholarOne Manuscripts technical support, you may contact them by e-mail or phone support via http://scholarone.com/services/support/ . If you have any other requests please contact the Editors at sdalby@gmail.com or geopol@bgu.ac.il. Inquiries concerning book reviews should be submitted to Marcus Powers at marcus.power@durham.ac.uk or Merje Kuus at kuus@geog.ubc.ca.

Articles submitted should be original contributions and should not be under consideration for any other publication at the same time. There is no maximum length for articles, but 6,000 – 7,000 words is a useful target. Geopolitics welcomes the submission of scholarly articles on matters of space, power, identities, boundaries, borders, globalization, resources, security, the history of geopolitics and related matters which make a contribution to contemporary scholarship on these topics. Scholarly submissions to Geopolitics are double blind refereed so authors are requested to ensure that no material or phrasing that may obviously identify them as such is included in the uploaded files.

Please Note: Geopolitics does not publish foreign policy commentary or policy proposals. Please do not submit such articles to this journal.

Illustrations

Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:
  • 300 dpi or higher
  • sized to fit on journal page
  • EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
  • submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files
Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first page with color is $900.00. The next three pages with color are $450.00 each. A custom quote will be provided for color art totaling more than 4 journal pages. Good-quality color prints or files should be provided in their final size. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable.

Tables and Figures

Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet.

Notes

Notes should be kept to a minimum and numbered consecutively through the article with a numeral corresponding to the list of notes placed at the end. In this list, numbers should be followed by a full point, not a bracket. Harvard-style and bibliographical references are unacceptable. In notes, abbreviate Aug. to Feb.; Spell out March to July.

Books: Author's name as it appears on the book's title page, title underlined, with capitals for principle words, place of publication: publisher and date in parentheses, page reference:

1. J. Abun Nasr, A History of the Maghrib in the Islamic Period (Cambridge: CUP 1987) pp.214-17.

Articles: Author's name, title of article within single inverted commas with principle words capitalized, title of journal underlined, volume/issue number, year, place of publication if in a book, page reference:

2. A. Hodges, 'The Western Sahara File', Third World Quarterly 6/1 (Jan. 1984) p.78.

3. E.G.H. Joffe, 'The International Court of Justice and the Western Sahara Dispute', in R. Lawless and L. Monahan (eds.), War and Refugees: the Western Sahara Conflict (London: Pinter 1987) pp. 24-5.

Subsequent references: A reference to a single source in the previous note may be replaced by 'Ibid'; in later notes by author's surname, note number and page number(s); several titles by one author may be replaced with shortened forms:

4. Ibid, p. 26.

9. Joffe (note 3) p.16.

Or if other works by Joffe are cited:

10. Joffe, 'International Court of Justice' (note 3) p. 21.
