Instructions for Authors

The Journal of Spanish Cultural Studies is an international peer-reviewed journal that interrogates established notions of Spanish culture and Hispanism by publishing innovative theoretical and critical work of the highest quality. It promotes the study of previously marginalized areas of Spanish culture and research that rethinks the cultural meanings of canonical texts in relation to all historical periods. Work across disciplinary and national boundaries is encouraged.

Submission of manuscripts
The Editors welcome the submission of articles and proposals for monographic issues, position papers, interviews, and review articles. Articles should normally be between 7,000-8,500 words; position papers and interviews, 2,000-4,000 words; and reviews of individual books, 700-1,000 words. Material may be published in English or Spanish, with quotations in the original language (in the case of Basque, Catalan, and Galician, an English or Spanish translation should also be given). All articles are peer reviewed.

Submissions should be sent via e-mail to jscs@nyu.edu as Microsoft Word attachments, with contact information included in the body of the message. Notes should be kept to a minimum and placed at the end of the text before the list of works cited.

References within the text should follow the MLA guidelines. For more information please refer to the MLA Style Manual and Guide to Scholarly Publishing. 2nd. Ed. (New York: Modern Language Association of America, 1998).

Images: We encourage contributing authors publishing in JSCS to include visual materials with their articles. If copyrights are standing however, a written authorization from the copyright holder is needed (a simple note addressed to the Journal of Spanish Cultural Studies authorizing publication of photographic reproduction of the artist(s)' work will suffice). The author of the article is responsible to submit to JSCS:

   - The copyright holder's written authorisation for publication
   - A digitalized version of the image, saved in a high resolution Tif file (min. 300dpi)
   - A caption, supplied in a separate word file, stating the name of the artist, title of the work, and
year if possible and/ or appropriate
   - Instructions on the placement of the image in the text

Proofs will be sent to authors if there is time to do so. They should be corrected and returned within three days. Major alterations to the text cannot be accepted.

Reprints. Corresponding authors will receive free online access to their article through our website (www.informaworld.com) and a complimentary copy of the issue containing their article. Reprints of articles published in JSCS can be purchased through Rightslink when proofs are received or alternatively on our journals website. If you have any queries, please contact our reprints department at reprints@tandf.co.uk.

Copyright. It is a condition of publication that authors assign copyright or license the publication rights in their articles, including abstracts, to Taylor & Francis. This enables us to ensure full copyright protection and to disseminate the article, and of course to the journal, to the widest possible readership in print or electronic formats as appropriate. Authors retain many rights under the Taylor & Francis right policies, which can be found at www.informaworld.com/authors_journals_copyright_position. Authors are themselves responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyright material from other sources.
