Instructions for Authors

The International Journal of Human Rights is a refereed journal. The editors welcome articles in the fields of human rights and the law, race, religion, gender, children, class, refugees and immigration. The editors also welcome review articles (both literature based and thematic) in these fields. Please contact the associate editors in advance of submitting a review article.

Articles submitted to the journal should be original contributions and should not be under consideration for any other publication at the same time. If another version of the article is under consideration by another publication, or has been, or will be published elsewhere, authors should clearly indicate this at the time of submission.

There is no standard length for articles but 10-11,000 words (including notes and references) is a useful target. The article should begin with an indented and italicised abstract of around 100 words, which describing the main arguments and conclusions of the article, and a list of 5-6 key words. On a separate cover sheet, the following should be included: details of the author's institutional affiliation, full address and contact information, the exact length of the article, brief biographical description (about 50 words), and any acknowledgements.

Each manuscript should be sent electronically to the editor, frank.barnaby@btinternet.com.

Tables and Figures

Tables should be kept to a minimum and contain only essential data, and should be consecutively numbered. Diagrams, charts and graphs should be referred to as figures and consecutively numbered. Each table and figure must be followed by a heading, and be referred to in the text. Tables should be prepared using tabs and supplied in separate files.

Any diagrams or maps should be copied to separate files in uncompressed .TIF or .JPG formats. Tints and colours should be avoided, use open patterns instead. These may be submitted in separate files or emailed as attachments. If figures are provided in hard copy only, they will be scanned and therefore must be supplied on good quality white paper and contain no handwriting or other marks.
