Instructions for Authors

Listen to John Evans, Editor of Sport, Education and Society discuss what the editorial board look for when considering submissions.

***Note to Authors: please make sure your contact address information is clearly visible on the outside of all packages you are sending to Editors.***

Articles, ideally between 5,000 and 7,000 should be sent electronically to John Evans at John.Evans@lboro.ac.uk Submissions must be in Microsoft word. Where this is not possible, three identical copies of the paper, together with any illustrations, should be submitted to John Evans, School of Sport and Exercise Sciences, Loughborough, LE11 3TU.

Books for review should be sent to:
Dawn Penney, Faculty of Education, University of Tasmania, Locked Bag 1330, Launceston, Tasmania, 7250, Australia; dawn.penney@utas.edu.au

Articles should be typed on one side of the paper, double spaced, with ample margins, and bear the title of the contribution. An abstract of 100-500 words and up to 10 key words should be included as part of the text, and not be sent as a separate file. In order to guarantee blind review the name(s) of the author(s) and the address where the work was carried out should only appear on a cover sheet, which should be submitted as a separate document in electronic submissions. The full postal address of the author who will check proofs and receive correspondence and offprints should also be included in the separate document. All pages should be numbered. Footnotes to the text should be avoided.

Papers accepted become the copyright of the journal, unless otherwise specifically agreed. Rejected manuscripts will not be returned unless sufficient stamps/international postal coupons have been sent.

Tables and captions to illustrations: Tables must be typed out on separate sheets and not included as part of the text. The captions to illustrations should be gathered together and also typed on a separate sheet. Tables should be numbered by Roman numerals, and figures by Arabic numerals. The approximate position of tables and figures should be indicated in the manuscript. Captions should include keys to symbols.

Figures: Please supply one set of artwork in a finished form, suitable for reproduction. Figures will not normally be redrawn by the publisher.

References should be indicated in the typescript by giving the author's name, with the year of publication in parentheses. If several papers by the same author and from the same year are cited, a,b,c, etc. should be put after the year of publication. The references should be listed in full at the end of the paper in the following standard form.

For books: Scott, P. (1984) The crisis of the university (London, Croom Helm).

For articles: Archer, J. & McDonald, M. (1990) Gender roles and sports in adolescent girls, Leisure Studies, 9, 225-240.

For chapters within books: Willis, P. (1983) Cultural production and theories of reproduction, in: L. Barton & S. Walker (Eds) Race, class and education (London, Croom Helm), 71-85.

Titles of journals should not be abbreviated. In book references, 'Vol.', 'Chapter' and 'pp.' (if required) should appear immediately after the book title.

Non-discriminatory writing. Please ensure that writing is free from bias, for instance, by replacing 'he' or 'his' with 'he' or 'she' or 's/he' or 'his/her' and by using non-racist language.

We strongly encourage you to send the final, revised version of your article, electronically, by email. More help and guidelines on submitting articles already accepted for publication. Please note that this information applies only to authors whose articles have been reviewed, revised, and accepted for publication.

Proofs will be sent to authors if there is sufficient time to do so. They should be corrected and returned to the Editors within three days. Major alterations to the text cannot be accepted.

Free article access: Corresponding authors will receive free online access to their article through our website (www.informaworld.com) and a complimentary copy of the issue containing their article. Reprints of articles published in this journal can be purchased through Rightslink® when proofs are received. If you have any queries, please contact our reprints department at reprints@tandf.co.uk

Copyright: It is a condition of publication that authors assign copyright or license the publication rights in their articles, including abstracts, to Taylor & Francis. This enables us to ensure full copyright protection and to disseminate the article, and of course the Journal, to the widest possible readership in print and electronic formats as appropriate. Authors retain many rights under the Taylor & Francis rights policies, which can be found at www.informaworld.com/authors_journals_copyright_position. Authors are themselves responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyright material from other sources.
