Instructions for Authors

Notes for contributors

***Please make sure your contact address information is clearly visible on the outside of all packages you are sending to Editors.***

Submissions are invited of papers that represent original, unpublished research, that are not forthcoming or being considered elsewhere for publication and that, if accepted for publication, will not be published elsewhere in the same or closely similar form in any language without the consent of one of the Editors and the publisher. It will be assumed that the author(s) has all necessary permissions to include in the paper such items as quotations, illustrations, results of government sponsored research, etc.

Manuscripts from all authors outside North America should be submitted to Eleanor Morgan, School of Management, University of Bath, Claverton Down, Bath BA2 7AY, UK (mail to: ijeb@management.bath.ac.uk). Manuscripts by North American authors should be submitted to H. E. Frech III, Economics Department, University of California, Santa Barbara, CA 93106, USA (mail to: jbusecon@econucsb.edu).

Submission of papers by e mail is preferred. Please use Microsoft Word where possible. If a PDF file is sent, please submit one file containing full author details as outlined below and a second file in anonymous form, ensuring that author details do not appear in the file properties or title of the file, together with an abstract in Word. Emails must be titled ‘IJEB submission – corresponding author's name '. The author should verify in an accompanying letter sent by post that the paper represents original, unpublished research that is not forthcoming or to be considered elsewhere whilst being considered by the IJEB. If you submit your paper by post, please include one hard copy of the paper with author details, a disk and the confirmation of originality (as above).

Papers should be double spaced, with ample margins, and include a title page with the title of the contribution, name(s) of the author(s) and affiliation(s) as the author(s) would wish them to appear. The full postal address of all authors should also be included as well as email address. All pages should be numbered and a total word count supplied. An abstract of 100-150 words should be included. From one to six key words or phrases must be provided and the Journal of Economics Literature (JEL) classification number(s) should be included.

Tables must not be included as  part of the text but typed out separately and placed at the end of the text in the same file.

Figures and line drawings must have a descriptive title legend and each must be produced on a separate page. Figures should be supplied as camera-ready artwork in a form suitable for printing.

References should be indicated in the typescript by giving the author's name, with the year of publication and the page number if the reference follows a direct quotation. As an hypothetical example, Demsetz (1993) may refer to some work on oligopoly pricing (Domberger, 1991) considered to be "..of interest" by Clarke (1992:14). If several papers by the same author and from the same year are cited, a, b, c, etc. should be put after the year of publication. The references should be listed at the end in the following standard form, with the authors' names as they appear in the original publications (e.g. use an author's full names if that is how they appear in the original publication).

Books, monographs:
Buckley, Peter. J. and Casson, Mark (2003) The Future of the Multinational Enterprise (London: Macmillan)

Contribution to books:
Mueller, D.C. (2001) United States' antitrust at the crossroads, in: H.W. de Jong and W.G. Shepherd (Eds), Mainstreams in Industrial Organization, Book II, pp.215-41 (Dordrecht: Kluwer).

Journal articles:
Williamson, Oliver E.(1989) Economies as an antitrust defence: the welfare tradeoffs, American Economic Review, 58 (1), pp. 18-31.

End notes should be referenced by raised numerals in the text corresponding to a list of notes placed at the end of the paper and before the references.

Proofs will be sent to authors if there is sufficient time to do so. They should be corrected and returned within three days. Major alterations or revisions cannot be accepted.
