Instructions for Authors

***Note to Authors: please make sure your contact address information is clearly visible on the outside of all packages you are sending to Editors.***

The Journal of Israeli History is a refereed journal. Articles submitted to the Journal should be original contributions, which are not being offered for publication elsewhere. If another version of the article is under consideration by another publication, or has been, or will be, published elsewhere, authors should clearly indicate this at the time of submission.

Manuscripts should be submitted in two copies, typed in double space, with the author's contact details on a separate cover sheet and any self-referencing material removed from the notes. Articles should not exceed 12,000 words, including notes, and should be accompanied by a 100-word abstract and a few keywords. They should be submitted to the Editors at the following address:

Journal of Israeli History The Institute for the Study of Zionism and Israel Carter Building, Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv 69978, Israel. Articles can also be submitted by email (in WORD or RTF) jihist@post.tau.ac.il.

STYLE

Spelling: American spelling and punctuation should be used throughout. Dates should be given in the form 21 December 1999; 1994-98; the 1990s; the twentieth century.

Notes: The Journal follows The Chicago Manual of Style (Humanities). References should be given in shortened form in an endnote with a full version given in a list of references at the end of the article. Note reference numbers should appear as superior numerals following any punctuation marks (except the dash which they should precede).

The Notes should be given in abbreviated form as Name, Short title, pages:

Smith, Title of Book, 34.
Jones, "Title of Article," 948-50.

Ibid. should be used where possible, but should be avoided if the previous note contains more than one source.

The reference list should be given in alphabetical order, with the names of the authors inverted, using three-em dash for a repeated author or group of authors. Examples:

Jones, Tom. Title of Book. Place: Publisher, date.
———, ed. Title of Book. Place: Publisher, date.
Kelly, Ian. "Title of Article." Title of Journal 7, no. 6 (1990): 87-101.
Lewis, Mary, and Sally MacDonald. "Title of Article." In Title of Book, edited by
    John Smith. Place: Publisher, date.
Simpson, Jane. "Title of Dissertation." Ph.D. diss., Name of University, date.

Hebrew titles should be given in transliteration followed by the translation in parentheses.

Free article access: Corresponding authors will receive free online access to their article through our website (www.informaworld.com) and a complimentary copy of the issue containing their article.
