Aims and Scopes Bioremediation Journal is a peer-reviewed quarterly that publishes current, original laboratory and field research in bioremediation, the use of biological and supporting physical treatments to treat contaminated soil and groundwater. The journal rapidly disseminates new information on emerging and maturing bioremediation technologies and integrates scientific research and engineering practices. The authors, the editors, and readers are scientists, field engineers, site remediation managers, and regulatory experts from the academic, industrial, and government sectors worldwide.

High-quality, original articles make up the primary content. Other contributions are technical notes, short communications, and occasional invited review articles. Before contributions are accepted for publication, they must pass a rigorous peer-review process managed by the editorin-chief. The journal also publishes letters to the editor, book and software reviews, new product and patent information, and announcements of upcoming conferences and courses.

The scope encompasses any use of biological processes for environmental restoration. Hybrid technologies, which combine chemical and/ or physical processes with biological, also are appropriate for inclusion. Manuscripts dealing with any stage of technology development and validation, from basic laboratory research through bench-scale testing to field application, are invited. Papers that focus on field applications are particularly encouraged.

Also relevant are examinations of the social framework of bioremediation, including regulatory, economic, and public perception issues.

Submission of Manuscripts. Bioremediation Journal receives all manuscript submissions electronically via their Manuscript Central website located at: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/BBRM. Manuscript Central allows for rapid submission of original and revised manuscripts, as well as facilitating the review process and internal communication between authors, editors and reviewers via a web-based platform. For Manuscript Central technical support, you may contact by e-mail or phone support via http://scholarone.com/services/support/. If you have any other requests please contact the Editor-in-Chief, Hanadi S. Rifai at bioremj@uh.edu

Preparation of Manuscripts All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten, double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. A cover page should be included containing all authors' full names, addresses, phone and fax numbers, and email addresses. Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of not more that 200 words, and should contain a list of five to ten key terms to be used to index the manuscript. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text in the abstract. Group the references, tables, figures, and captions together at the end of the manuscript. A typical article should be 7,500 to 12,000 words, which can be expected to result in a published article of 10 to 15 pages; a technical note should be no more than 4,000 words.

References Should be alphabetized by author and compiled in a separate section at the end of the manuscript. Cite in text by author and date. Please use The Chicago Manual of Style, 14th ed., for correct reference style. Abbreviate journal titles according to the Chemical Abstracts Service Source Index (CASSI); if unavailable spell out titles in full.

Illustrations Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:

  • 300 dpi or higher
  • sized to fit on journal page
  • EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only\
  • submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files
Tables and Figures Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet. All original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author's name, and top edge indicated. Number tables and figures consecutively.

Formulas and Equations
Simple fraction expressions should be written with a slanted line rather than in the usual manner, so that only a single line of type is required. Space out all signs (e.g.,+−= < >), but do not space components of mathematical products. Prepare organic structural formulas in a manner suitable for direct photographic reproduction. Place a photocopy of the structure in the text where mentioned, but place the originals at the end of the manuscript.

Numerals Measurements must be expressed in International System (SI) units. If the work was done in English system measurements, add SI Conversion in parenthesis.

Proofs One set of proofs is sent to the author via e-mail. Proofs should be carefully checked and returned promptly.

Reprints Each corresponding author will receive 1 copy of the issue in which their article appears. Reprints of individual articles are available for order at the time authors review page proofs. A discount on reprints is available to authors who order before publication.

Color Reproduction
Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in color art reproduction. Color art can be purchased for online only reproduction or for print + online reproduction. Color reprints can only be ordered if print + online reproduction costs are paid. Rates for color art reproduction are: Online Only Reproduction: $225 for the first page of color; $100 per page for each of the next three pages of color. A maximum charge of $525 applies. Print + Online Reproduction: $900 for the first page of color; $450 per page for each of the next three pages of color. A custom quote will be provided for articles with more than four pages of color. Art not supplied at a minimum of 300 dpi will not be considered for print.
