Manuscripts  

A title page should be included along with the author's name and contact information. Manuscripts must not exceed 35 double-spaced typewritten pages, including tables, appendices and endnotes. Please follow the Chicago Manual of Style format for notes and number/caption any tables or appendices. Manuscripts submitted to Critique must not have been published previously or be submitted simultaneously to any other journal.

Illustrations. Tables, figures and plates should not be inserted within the pages of the manuscript but should be submitted on separate sheets attached to the article. The desired position in the text for each table, figure and plate should be indicated in the margin. All captions for figures and plates (including sources and acknowledgements) should be listed on a separate sheet. Tables should be prepared with the minimum use of horizontal rules (usually three are sufficient) and avoiding vertical rules. It is important to provide clear copy of figures (not photocopies or faxes) which can be reproduced by the printer and do not require redrawing. Photographs should be high-contrast black and white glossy prints.

Footnotes. Notes should be marked clearly in the text at the point of punctuation by superior numbers, and listed consecutively at the end of the article. They should not be footnotes to manuscript pages (although they will be printed as footnotes).

References. Articles must be submitted with a list of references on the final text page. The entries should be listed under ‘References'. Please list all references alphabetically by author. Where more than one work is cited for an individual author, these works should be listed chronologically. For references please observe the following: (a) list all collaborators on the book of article; (b) give complete information about periodical data such as volume, page numbers, series; (c) do not use abbreviations for titles of journals.

References should be typed in the form of the following examples:

Quotations. Short quotations within the text should appear within quotation marks; longer quotations should be indented about 2 cm along the left margin. Words, punctuation, or italicisation not present in the original should be contained within square brackets or noted as ‘emphasis added'.
