Problems, Resources, and Issues in Mathematics Undergraduate Studies
Instructions for Authors
Papers in any area of undergraduate mathematics with attention to teaching issues are of interest to the journal. Papers must make a major point. They must be original, not previously published, and not under consideration for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher. Authors are urged to read over and correct their papers and any proofs supplied on paper, not just on screen, before submitting them. Please number manuscript pages consecutively in the paper.
Submission of Manuscripts
Papers must include the author's full name, address, e-mail address, short biographical sketch, abstract, keywords, and a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Papers must be submitted electronically as attachments to emails, or on media, or as instructions as to how to download from a website. Two copies should be submitted – one without author identification for a two-way blind referee system and a second with full identifiers and biographical sketches. Manuscripts should be double spaced, unjustified with wide margins, top, bottom, and sides. Send electronic versions of the manuscript with a cover letter identifying the format of the manuscript, e.g., LaTeX or WORD to the Editor: Brian.Winkel@usma.edu
In the event that the author wishes to send media or cannot send the manuscript electronically, copies may be sent to:
Dr. Brian Winkel, Editor
Department of Mathematical Sciences
United States Military Academy
West Point NY 10996 USA
Within 6-8 weeks, refereed and edited papers will be sent to the author for further consideration if the paper is acceptable. Upon final agreement and acceptance by the author and the editor of the approved and edited paper, authors should send one pdf copy of the paper and one electronic copy, e.g., LaTeX or WORD, with each figure in a separate graphics file to the West Point office via post or email.
Format and References
Format and references should follow closely the latest AMS style. All quotations not in English must be translated into English. Footnotes will be positioned at the bottom of the appropriate page. All works cited will be included in the references. Thus, authors should list all works referenced alphabetically by author's last name or source at the end of the paper.
Illustrations
Illustrations (line drawings, halftones, photos, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files, each figure sent as a separate identified file as well as in place in the manuscript, are highly recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines: at least 300 dpi or higher, sized to fit the journal page (6 X 9 inches), EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only.
Tables and Figures
A short descriptive title should appear below each table or figure with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be numbered consecutively and completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed and double-spaced in the manuscript. Should hard copy be submitted, all original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author's name, and top edge indicated. The journal production is in black and white only; color figures are not accepted.
Proofs
Approximately 6 weeks before publication date authors will receive electronic access to proofs for final corrections. All proofs must be corrected and returned to the publisher within 10 days. If the proofs are not returned within the allotted time, the editor will proofread the paper and it will be printed per the editor's instructions. Only corrections of typographical errors are permitted.
Author Copies
Each author of a paper will receive a complimentary copy of the issue and each corresponding author will receive a PDF file of the article via email. This file is for personal use only and may not be copied or disseminated in any form without prior written permission from Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
