Ethics & Behavior
Instructions for Authors
Aims and scope:
Ethics & Behavior publishes articles on an array of topics pertaining to various moral issues and conduct. These topics may include, but are not restricted to, the exercise of social and ethical responsibility in human behaviors, ethical dilemmas or professional misconduct in health and human service delivery, the conduct of research involving human and animal participants, fraudulence in the management or reporting of scientific research, and public policy issues involving ethical problems. Perspectives are occasional essays describing challenging dilemmas in ethics and behavior. Potential contributors should contact Gerald Koocher at koocher@simmons.edu.
Manuscript submission:
Address manuscripts to the Editor: Gerald P. Koocher, School for Health Studies, Simmons College, 300 The Fenway, Boston, MA 02115, or koocher@simmons.edu. Authors are strongly encouraged to submit manuscripts as electronic attachments. The manuscript file should be prepared using MS Word or WordPerfect and should be identified with the names and contact information for all authors on the cover page. When transmitting a manuscript as an electronic mail attachment, please type Ethics & Behavior in the subject line of the message. Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors should also state that they have complied with appropriate ethical standards in the treatment of any participants in the work being reported. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.
Manuscript preparation:
Prepare manuscripts according to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), 5th edition. All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten, double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Except for brief case submissions, each article should be summarized in an abstract of not more than 100 words. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text in the abstract. List three to five keywords for database indexing at the bottom of the abstract page. Unaccepted manuscripts ordinarily will not be returned.
To facilitate anonymous review, only the article title should appear on the first page of the manuscript. An attached cover page must contain title, authorship, and an introductory footnote with professional titles and mailing addresses of the authors and any statements of credit or research support. Every effort should be made by the authors to see that the manuscript itself contains no clues to their identities.
Tables and Figures
Tables and figures (illustrations) should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet. All original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author's name, and top edge indicated.
Proofs and reprints:
Page proofs are sent to the designated author using Taylor & Francis' Central Article Tracking System (CATS). They must be carefully checked and returned within 48 hours of receipt. Reprints of individual articles are available for order at the time authors review page proofs. A discount on reprints is available to authors who order before print publication.
