Journal of Applied Aquaculture
Instructions for Authors
Aims and Scope.
The Journal of Applied Aquaculture is a platform for the sharing of practical information needed by researchers to meet the needs of investors, farm managers, extension agents and policy makers working to adapt aquaculture theory to achieve economic and food security objectives in the real world. The journal emphasizes multi-disciplinary research and case studies that propose financially and logistically viable solutions to observable problems.Submission of Manuscripts. Manuscripts, including all text, figures, and tables should be submitted electronically to Randy E. Brummett, Senior Scientist, World Fish, Cameroun, at R.Brummett@cgiar.org. All text, data, and reference, should be contained in a single file as an MS Word or other common text file. If submitting hard copy, three complete copies of the manuscript are required. Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere or submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.
Illustrations. Illustrations (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:
-
300 dpi or higher
-
sized to fit on journal page
-
EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
-
submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files
Tables and Figures. Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be included in number order at the end of the text after the reference section. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. When submitting manuscripts by hard copy, captions should be typed, doublespaced, on a separate sheet. All original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author's name, and top edge indicated.
Equations. Wherever possible, mathematical equations should be typewritten, with subscripts and superscripts clearly shown. Identify unusual or ambiguous symbols in the margin when they first occur. To simplify typesetting, please use fractional exponents instead of root signs; and the solidus (/) in simple fractions.
References. Identify references in the text by the Chicago (name and date) system: either “Recent work (Smith, 1970)...” or “Recently Smith (1970) has found...” With three or more names, use the form “Smith et al., (1970)” in the text. The full list should be collected at the end of the paper in alphabetical order. All authors should be given in the reference list. Examples:
Journal: Mushiake, K., K. Kawano, W. Sakamoto, and I. Hasegawa. 1994. Effects of extended daylength on ovarian maturation and HCG-induced spawning in yellowtail fed poist pellets. Fisheries Science 60:647–651.
