Aims and Scope

The purpose of Critical Reviews in Analytical Chemistry is to provide in-depth, scholarly, and insightful reviews of important topics within the vast discipline of analytical chemistry. The emphasis will be on publication of the finest caliber, genuinely “critical” review articles which will serve to teach the relevant underlying science, evaluate the field's status by putting recent developments into proper perspective and context, and speculate on possible future developments. A stringent peer review program is an integral part of the publication process.

Critical Reviews in Analytical Chemistry serves as a forum to link various underlying components (e.g., chemical analysis, instrumentation, mathematics, equilibrium, physics, engineering, materials science, environmental sciences, etc.) in a broad, interdisciplinary fashion while maintaining an appropriate balance between applied and fundamental research. It is hoped that the Journal will continue to be a dependable and useful resource for both the expert and the interested student.

Articles published in Critical Reviews in Analytical Chemistry are normally initiated through invitation extended by the Editors or by members of the Editorial Advisory Board; however, contributed manuscripts will be carefully considered.

Submission of Manuscripts

Three copies of original full length manuscripts, as well as letters to the editor and other correspondence, should be submitted to: Professor Charles Lochm¨uller, Editor-in-Chief, 2819 McDowell Road, Durham, NC, U.S.A. 27705-5604. E-mail: charles.lochmuller@duke.edu. Authors are strongly encouraged to submit manuscripts on disk. The disk should be prepared using MS Word or WordPerfect and should be clearly labeled with the authors' names, file name, and software program. A hardcopy printout that exactly matches the disk must be supplied. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.

Papers are accepted only in English. Contributors from non-English speaking countries are encouraged to seek editorial help in preparing their manuscripts. All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten, double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 35 character spaces, and several key words. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of 100–150 words. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text in the abstract.

References

References and notes are indicated in the text by consecutive Arabic numbers. The full list should be collected and typed at the end of the paper in numerical order. Listed references should be complete in all details, including article titles in journals. Examples:

Tables

Tables should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction.

Proofs

One set of proofs is sent to the corresponding author. Proofs should be carefully checked and returned within 48 hours. If corrections are not returned within the allotted time, the editor will proofread the article and it will be printed per his instruction. Only correction of typographical errors is permitted. The author will be charged for additional alterations to text at the proof stage. 

Reprints

Each corresponding author of an article will receive a PDF file of the article via email. This file is for personal use only and may not be copied and disseminated in any form without prior written permission from Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
