Instructions for Authors

The central foci of this International Journal of Early Years Education is research into learning in children aged from birth to eight years, and the policies; theories and practices adopted to promote effective early years education in different countries. The journal contains original articles and reviews of books and other relevant material.

The Editorial Board of the journal is international, including representatives from every continent. Contributors should bear in mind that they will be addressing an international audience.

Please send submissions to: I.J.EYE@strath.ac.uk
The editorial team would prefer this mailbox to be used for all submissions, but if this is not possible please send a hard copy of the submission to:

Dr Penny Munn penelope.munn@strath.ac.uk, Department of Childhood and Primary Studies, University of Strathclyde, Sir Henry Wood Building, Jordanhill Campus, 76 Southbrae Drive, Glasgow G13 1PP, UK.

Please note, if a hard copy is sent it must be accompanied by an electronic version in some form, either by post, (CD/disk), or to the electronic mailbox above.

Articles submitted to the International Journal of Early Years Education should not be under consideration by any other journal, or have been published elsewhere, and the letter accompanying the submission of any manuscript should contain a clear statement to this effect.

Articles should be original, normally around 2500-5000 words in length, and written in a clear, straightforward style, avoiding technical jargon wherever possible. Typescripts should be typed on one side of A4 paper, with double spacing and with a margin to the left. If a hard copy is being sent, three copies of the article are required, each bearing the following information: name(s) of author(s), address where work was carried out. The hard copy must also be accompanied by an electronic version as explained above.
Each article should be accompanied by an abstract/summary of 100-150 words and up to five keywords, which between them should characterize the paper. These will be used for indexing and data retrieval purposes.

To allow for anonymous refereeing, all submissions must be properly formatted for blind reviewing and authors' names and institutions should only appear as separate information accompanying the manuscript.

Books for review should be addressed to Sue Rogers, School of Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment, Institute of Education, University of London, 20 Bedford Way, London WC1 OAL, UK.

Footnotes should be avoided, subheadings should be used, particularly in longer articles. Figures or artwork should be supplied in a finished form, suitable for reproduction, as these cannot be redrawn by the publishers. All pages should be numbered. The final address of the author who will check proofs and receive correspondence should also be included.
