Instructions for Authors

  1. The Journal of Social Welfare and Family Law is an international, peer reviewed journal. It publishes material of good academic standard, written, so far as possible, in a non-technical style which addresses both legal issues and the social context to which these relate. In addition to contributions with a predominantly legal focus, therefore, the Journal is also interested in contributions from the field of socio-legal studies and the interface between these and disciplines such as social policy and social work. All articles which are submitted are sent to two external assessors for comment and the final decision is made by the joint general editors in the light of their comments.
  2. Manuscripts and editorial communications should be sent to JSWFL@liverpool.ac.uk or to Helen Stalford, The Liverpool Law School, Chatham Street, University of Liverpool, L69 7ZS
  3. Articles should not normally exceed 6,000 words in length and a precise word count should be included with each article submitted. Authors are also requested to ensure that articles are written in gender appropriate language and that they follow the editorial style and format adopted by the Journal. An abstract of the article of 100-150 words should be included together with 6 keywords suitable for indexing and on-line search purposes. The whole text, including references and abstracts, should be double spaced and presented on one side of the paper only.
  4. The joint general editors will, under normal circumstances, either inform authors of their decision or of the extent of and reasons for the delay, within three months of the receipt of an article.
  5. Style guidelines

This enables us to ensure full copyright protection and to disseminate the article, and of course the Journal, to the widest possible readership in print and electronic formats as appropriate. Authors may, of course, use the article elsewhere after publication without prior permission from Taylor & Francis, provided that acknowledgement is given to the Journal as original source of publication, and that Taylor & Francis is notified so that our records show that its use is properly authorised. Authors retain a number of other rights under the Taylor & Francis rights policies documents. These policies are referred to at http://www.tandf.co.uk/journals/authorrights.pdf for full details.
