Instructions for Authors

 Instructions for Authors

All submissions should be made online at the Language Learning Journal Manuscript Central site . Manuscripts should be around 6,000 words. The Editor is willing to discuss article length with authors. New users should first create an account. If a user is having difficulty creating an account then ScholarOne support can be contacted via the “Get Help Now” link in the top right hand corner of the create account screen.  Once a user is logged onto the site submissions should be made via the Author Centre.

Authors should prepare and upload two versions of their manuscript. One should be a complete text, while in the second all document information identifying the author should be removed from files to allow them to be sent anonymously to referees. When uploading files authors will then be able to define the non-anonymous version as “File not for review”.

Articles submitted to the Language Learning Journal should not be under consideration by any other journal, or have been published elsewhere, and the letter accompanying the submission of any manuscript should contain a clear statement to this effect. Please make sure that the full postal and email address of the author who will check proofs and receive correspondence is clearly marked.

Submissions should be produced using a standard word processing program, such as MS Word. Figures or artwork should be supplied in a finished form, suitable for reproduction, as these cannot be redrawn by the publishers. Footnotes/Endnotes should be avoided. Subheadings should be used, particularly in longer articles.

Please ensure that the files are not saved as read only.

Any consistent spelling style is acceptable. Use single quotation marks with double within if needed.
Word template is available for this journal.
If you have any questions about references or formatting your article, please contact authorqueries@tandf.co.uk

Guidance on supplying figures
Tables and figures should be saved as separate files and can also be supplied as eps, tif, pdf, or word files. Give the files clear names such as Smith_text.doc, Smith_tables.doc, Smith_figures.doc, Smith_figurecaptions.doc. All figures must be numbered in the order in which they occur (e.g. Figure 1, Figure 2 etc.). In multi-part figures, each part should be labelled (e.g. Figure 1 (a), Figure 1 (b) etc.). The figure captions must be saved as a separate file with the text and numbered correspondingly.

The approximate position of tables and figures should be indicated in the text file, and they must be mentioned in the text.

Avoid the use of colour and tints. Line figures will normally be reproduced in black and white. Subtle variations in grey tones which are distinguishable on screen may not be distinct when printed, and should be avoided. Strong contrasts such as black/white and cross-hatched patterns give a better printed result.

Figures should be produced as near to the finished size as possible. If the figure is to be reduced to fit the final printed page, allow for this reduction when selecting lettering size and line weight.

Half-tones, scans, photographs and transparencies should be saved at a minimum of 1200 dpi. They will not normally be reproduced in colour unless first agreed by the journal editor. In some cases it may be possible to present figures in black and white in the printed journal, but in colour in the online journal, if the originals are suitable.

Proofs and corrections
Please make sure that the full postal and email address of the author who will check proofs and receive correspondence and offprints is clearly marked.

Corrections should be clearly identified and returned within three working days of receipt. Major alterations to the text cannot be accepted.

Corresponding authors will receive free online access to their article through our website (www.informaworld.com) and a complimentary copy of the issue containing their article. Additional reprints can be purchased through Rightslink® when proofs are received or alternatively on our journals website. If you have any queries, please contact our reprints department at reprints@tandf.co.uk

Copyright. It is a condition of publication that authors assign copyright or licence the publication rights in their articles, including abstracts, to the Association for Language Learning. This enables us to ensure full copyright protection and to disseminate the article, and of course the Journal, to the widest possible readership in print and electronic formats as appropriate. Authors may, of course, use their article elsewhere after publication without prior permission from Taylor & Francis, provided that acknowledgement is given to the Journal as the original source of publication, and that Taylor & Francis is notified so that our records show that its use is properly authorised. Authors retain a number of other rights under the Taylor & Francis rights policies documents. These policies are referred to at www.tandf.co.uk/journals/authorrights.pdf for full details. Authors are themselves responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyright material from other sources.

Books for review should be sent to: Nigel Norman, Swansea Metropolitan University, School of Education, Townhill Road, Swansea, SA2 0UT, UK
