Instructions for Authors

Manuscripts

Papers should be typed with double spacing and wide (3cm) margins on good quality paper, and submitted in duplicate to the Editor. Submission of a paper will be taken to imply that it represents original work not previously published, that it is not being considered elsewhere for publication, and that if accepted for publication it will not be published elsewhere in the same form in any language. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. Further instructions can be obtained at www.princeton.edu/sgs/publications/sgs/instructions/

Preparation of Disks

Authors are encouraged to submit electronic disks containing their articles along with the typed manuscript. Files should be in MS Word format, however RichText or LaTex can be used. The hard copy must correspond exactly with the document on disk.

Abstract

Each paper requires an abstract of 100-150 words summarizing the significant coverage and findings.

Figures

All figures should be numbered with consecutive arabic numbers. A list of figure captions, with relevant figure numbers, should be typed on a separate sheet and included with the manuscript. Figures submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:

  • 300 dpi or higher
  • sized to fit on journal page
  • EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
  • submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files

Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first page with color is $900.00. The next three pages with color are $450.00 each. A custom quote will be provided for color art totaling more than 4 journal pages. Good-quality color prints or files should be provided in their final size. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable.

Equations and Formulas (Mathematical)

Given the technical nature of both the subject matter and the focus of the journal, mathematical expressions, equations, plots and figures are encouraged. Subscripts and superscripts should be clearly shown. It is helpful to identify unusual or ambiguous symbols in the margin when they first occur. To simplify typesetting, please use (1) the "exp" form of complex exponential functions; (2) fractional exponents instead of root signs; and (3) the solidus (/) to simplify fractions -- for example, exp (x 12 ).

Tables

Number tables consecutively with roman numerals, and give each a clear descriptive caption at the top. Avoid the use of vertical rules in tables.

Units

SI units are preferred. Acceptable abbreviations of units are given in the Style Manual of the American Institute of Physics, and the most recent edition of The Chicago Manual of Style.

References and Notes

References and notes are indicated in the text by consecutive superior arabic numbers. The full list should be collected and typed at the end of the manuscript in numerical order. Listed references should be complete in all details; for journals: author(s), article title, journal title, journal date; for books: author(s), title, publisher, where and when published; page references should be given if appropriate. For example:

Books:

Journals:
Noel Robertson, “The Dorian Migration and Corinthian Ritual,” Classical Philology 75 (1980): 17, 19-20

Footnotes: Footnotes should be demarcated with consecutive numbers and then placed at the end of the article, before the references.

Reprints and Complimentary Copies

The corresponding author of each article will receive one complete copy of the issue in which the article appears. Reprints of individual articles may be ordered from Taylor and Francis. A reprint order form accompanies page proofs.
