Aims & Scope: Research on Language and Social Interaction publishes the highest quality empirical and theoretical research which bears on language as it is used in interaction. Researchers in communication, discourse analysis, conversation analysis, and ethnography are likely to be the most active contributors, but we welcome submission of articles from the broad range of interaction researchers. Published papers will normally involve the close analysis of naturally occurring interaction. The journal is also open to theoretical essays and to quantitative studies where these are tied closely to the results of naturalistic observation. 

Address manuscripts to the Editor: Please submit one (1) electronic file of the manuscript to the editor, Charles Antaki (Loughborough University, England) via email (rolsi@Lboro.ac.uk) in aWord or Rich Text Format (RTF) file. Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere or submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere.

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher. Only articles written in English will be considered.

All manuscripts should be prepared according to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed.).

Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of not more than 100 words. The abstract should avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text. Authors will provide assurance that data, unless taken from the public domain, was collected with the informed consent of those involved. Data should normally be anonymized.

Articles published in Research on Language and Social Interaction will have normally been reviewed double-blind. To facilitate the review process, the title and author information should be on a separate page. There should be no other information in the manuscript that enables author identification. Transcription Preparation: For papers reporting transcripts of recorded interaction, the default transcription system is the one developed by Gail Jefferson that is used in conversation analysis (CA). Authors using the default transcription system need not comment; authors using other transcription systems should explain their choices in endnotes. Brief explanations of the most common symbols are available in the back section of this journal. Fuller explanations of CA transcription practices may be found in the following books:

Tables and Figures: Tables and figures (illustrations) should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short, descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet. All original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author's name, and top edge indicated. 

Proofs and Reprints: Page proofs are sent to the designated author using Taylor & Francis' Central Article Tracking System (CATS). They must be carefully checked and returned within 48 hours of receipt. Authors will receive black & white proofs of their article to review. Color proofs will be provided for art physically printing in color if author consent is received by the requested due date. Reprints of individual articles are available for order at the time authors review page proofs. A discount on reprints is available to authors who order before print publication.
