Society Information
The objectives of the Geological Society of Australia are to promote, advance and support the earth sciences within the scientific and wider communities. Key strategies to achieve these objectives include:
- Facilitating communication in the earth sciences
- Influencing government decisions, particularly relating to earth science research and teaching
- Encouraging and promoting public awareness of the importance and relevance of the earth sciences in Australia
- Catering for a diversity of members
The GSA was established in 1952 as a learned, non-profit organisation. It has a National Executive and Divisional Committees in each State and Territory.
The Divisions hold regular monthly meetings and organise special conferences as well as conduct occasional field trips. Thirteen Specialist Groups cater for members in different sectors of the earth sciences. These groups produce their own newsletters as well as organise conferences and field trips.
An administration office, employing a Business Manager and Executive Assistant, is maintained in Sydney. The Society also has a Publicity Consultant.
Members of the GSA are entitled to receive the journal as part of their annual society membership, and are eligible to a 10% discount on related Taylor & Francis books and a 50% discounted rate off print subscriptions to related Taylor & Francis journals.
