Instructions for Authors

Submission of Manuscripts. Mansucripts should be addressed to either editor: Kenneth L. Nash, Washington State University, Chemistry Department, PO Box 644630, Pullman, WA 99164-4630, knash@wsu.edu or Bruce A. Moyer, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Chemical Sciences Division, PO Box 2008, Oak Ridge, TN, 37831-6119, moyerba@ornl.gov.
Authors are encouraged to submit manuscripts electronically to the editors at their above email addresses. If submitting by post, authors should use floppy or cd disks as well as three hard copies that match the corresponding file. For review, send a single file in pdf format or a single MS Word file as alternative. After review, final revised manuscripts should be sent to the editor supervising the review process. Final manuscripts should be a text file in MS Word plus separate files for figures and tables. Submitted manuscripts must be accompanied by a brief letter containing the following: a) statement of why the work is novel; b) statement that none of the submission has been or will be submitted to another journal without proper acknowledgment and permission; c) several suggested reviewers and all contact information–post address, fax no., and email address; and d) author contact information for correspondence, including post address, fax no., and email address. The entire manuscript should be typed in Times or Times New Roman font, double-spaced, left justified with one inch margins. Paragraphs should be plain text with a blank line between paragraphs and above and below all headings. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. Authors should supply a short version of the title for the running head, not exceeding 50 characters (including spaces). Each article should be summarized in an abstract of not more than 100 words. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources. Documentation of such permission should be submitted with the manuscript. For complete instructions, authors are directed to the Taylor and Francis web site http://www.tandf.co.uk/journals/

References. Cite in the text by reference number enclosed in superscripted brackets. Consult the Taylor and Francis web site for reference style, or refer to recent issues of the journal. Titles of journal articles and book chapters are required. Standard journal abbreviations should be used (e.g., as listed in the ACS Style Guide).

Illustrations. Figures submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:

  • 300 dpi or higher
  • Sized to fit on journal page
  • Submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files

Color figures will be considered for publication; however, the authors will be required to bear the full cost involved in color art reproduction. Color art can be purchased for online only conversion and reproduction or for print + online reproduction. Color reprints can only be ordered if print + online reprodution costs are paid. Rates for color art reproduction are:

Online Only Reprodution: $225 for the first page of color; $100 per page for each of the next three pages of color. A maximum charge of $525 applies.

Print + Online Reprodution: $900 for the first page of color; $450 per page for each of the next three pages of color. A custom quote will be provided for articles with more than 4 pages of color.

Good-quality color prints should be provided in their final size. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable.

Tables and Figures. Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. Minimize use of vertical and horizontal lines in tables: most tables should have three horizontal lines (i.e., above and below headings at the top and at the bottom and no vertical lines. All units must be included. Where appropriate, an accurate assessment of error analysis on results should be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. All lettering should be of adequate size. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet. All original figures submitted in hard copy should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author's name, and top edge indicated.

Author Copies. Each corresponding author of an article will receive a PDF of the article via email. The file is for personal use only and may not be copied and disseminated in any form without prior written permission from Taylor and Francis Group, LLC
