Instructions for Authors
***Note to Authors: please make sure your contact address information is clearly visible on the outside of all packages you send to Editors.***
The Journal of Contemporary Asia is an established refereed publication that has appeared quarterly since 1970. A panel of advisers, mainly senior professors, advises the Editors on submitted manuscripts.
Aims and scope. We welcome original articles written exclusively for the Journal that deal with broad problems of the economic, political and social development of Asia. Articles on economic development issues, political economy, agriculture, planning, the working class, peoples' movements, politics and power, imperialism and empire, international financial institutions, the environment, and economic history are especially welcomed. The journal also has a strong interest in the scientific development of theory that is of global significance, especially on the role of the state, class analysis, power and globalisation. We welcome submissions from Asia-based researchers, those working in best traditions of critical political economy, and young researchers.
Submission. Articles submitted should be 8,000 to 12,000 words in length. They should be double spaced and one copy should be mailed to: Editor, Journal of Contemporary Asia, P.O. Box 592, Manila, Philippines 1099 and an electronic copy should be emailed to khewison@unc.edu
Electronic contributions will hasten pre-press work. They must, however, be accompanied with the corresponding hard copy manuscript; in case of conflict, the manuscript will prevail over the computerised version. Our preferred word processor programme is Microsoft Word.
Review articles should include a title for the article and should be 2,500 to 5,000 words in length and the author, book title, city/publisher and year should be listed at the top of the page. An example would be:
THE ASIA CRISIS: FROM "MIRACLE" TO CRASH
by John Smith (Sydney: Veriken Press, 2003).
Ordinary book reviews are limited to 1,300 words, focusing on publications no more than two years old. The author, book title, city/publisher and year should be listed at the top of the page, set out above.
In order to avoid delays in publication, it is not possible for JCA editors to permit contributors to continually revise a submitted manuscript, except where such changes have been recommended by referees or editorial board members. Therefore contributors, when submitting an article for publication by us are strongly urged to submit only what they regard as the final version.
Style. It is the authors' responsibilty to keep to the style of JCA. Click here and here to download a copy of the full style guide. Endnotes should be kept within reasonable bounds.
Free article access: Corresponding authors can receive 50 free reprints, free online access to their article through our website (www.informaworld.com) and a complimentary copy of the issue containing their article. Complimentary reprints are available through Rightslink® and additional reprints can be ordered through Rightslink® when proofs are received. If you have any queries, please contact our reprints department at reprints@tandf.co.uk
Proofs. These will be sent to the main author as e-proofs. Corrections should be clearly identified and returned to your Taylor & Francis contact within three days. Major alterations to the text cannot be accepted.
Copyright. It is a condition of publication that authors assign copyright or license the publication rights in their articles, including abstracts, to the Journal of Contemporary Asia. This enables us to ensure full copyright protection and to disseminate the article, and of course the Journal, to the widest possible readership in print and electronic formats as appropriate. Authors retain many rights under the Taylor & Francis rights policies, which can be found at www.informaworld.com/authors_journals_copyright_position. Authors are themselves responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyright material from other sources.
