Aims and Scope:

 

Educational Psychologist publishes scholarly essays, reviews, critiques, and articles of a theoretical/conceptual nature that
contribute to our understanding of the issues, problems, and research associated with the field of educational psychology. Aticles representing all aspects of educational psychology are encouraged. This journal, however, does not publish articles whose primary purpose is to report the method and results of an empirical study.

Screen for Appropriateness:

 

By submitting manuscripts to Educational Psychologist, authors are confirming that the manuscripts have not been published and are not under consideration for publication elsewhere. Prior to submission, authors should determine whether their manuscripts orrespond to the journal's statement of purpose—to publish essays, critiques, and articles of a theoretical/conceptual nature that contribute to our understanding of the issues, problems, and research associated with the field of educational psychology. Articles consistent with the journal's purpose include critical, integrative reviews of educational psychology research; conceptual or theoretical syntheses or analyses of educational psychology research; scientifically documented digests of educational psychology research relevant to policy issues; and documented, scholarly essays of general interest to the educational psychology community. Consistent with the journal's mission to serve as a forum for important ideas in educational psychology, articles of varying lengths and covering all aspects of educational psychology will be considered, including articles focusing on implications for educational theory, research, practice, or policy. Articles that report mainly the results of an empirical study (e.g.,would be appropriate for the Journal of Educational Psychology) or articles that are intended mainly as practical guides (without research documentation) are inappropriate for Educational Psychologist and will be returned to the authors. In addition to publishing regular articles, the journal publishes special issues that are devoted to important themes in educational psychology and keynote reviews with published peer commentary. Authors interested in the latter formats are requested to contact the editor prior to submitting a proposal for a special issue or keynote review.

Prepare for Blind Peer Review:

 

All articles appearing in Educational Psychologist are peer reviewed. Because the reviewers have agreed to
participate in a blind reviewing system, authors' names and affiliations should not appear on the title page or elsewhere in the manuscript file (they can be keyed into the system and placed on a separate page in the cover letter file). Footnotes identifying the authors should be typed on a separate page and submitted in the cover letter file. Authors should make every effort to ensure that the manuscript file itself contains no clues to their identities.

 

Educational Psychologist is now using an online submission and review system, Editorial Manager, through which authors submit manuscripts and track their progress up until acceptance for publication. Authors will enter pertinent information
into the system and submit the following files: (a) Cover letter file. (b) Manuscript file, containing the entire text of the article, including abstract,all text, references, footnotes, and appendices. Figures and tables may either be included at the end of this file or submitted separately. (c) Figures and tables, which may be submitted as separate files if desired. After a manuscript is accepted for publication, authors are asked to submit a final version of the manuscript.

Authors should follow the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed.) in preparing manuscripts for submission to this journal. Authors should comply with “Guidelines to Reduce Bias in Language” as printed in the Publication Manual. Manuscripts that fail to conform to APA-style guidelines will be returned to the author(s).

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.

 

All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten and double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Manuscript pages should be consecutively numbered throughout the paper. Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of not more than 100 words. The abstract should avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text.

Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital
files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:

Color Reproduction

 

Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved
in color art reproduction. Color art can be purchased for online only conversion and reproduction or for print +online reproduction. Color reprints can only be ordered if print +online reproduction costs are paid. Rates for color art reproduction are:

Online Only Reproduction: $225 for the first page of color; $100 per page for the next three pages of color. A maximum charge of $525 applies.

Print + Online Reproduction: $900 for the first page of color; $450 per page for the next three pages of color. A custom quote will be provided for articles with more than 4 pages of color.

Tables and Figures:

 

Tables and figures (illustrations) should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A
short, descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included.

Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet. All original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author's name, and top edge indicated.

Proofs and Reprints:

 

Page proofs are sent to the designated author using Taylor & Francis' Central Article Tracking System (CATS). They must be carefully checked and returned within 48 hours of receipt. Authors will receive black & white proofs of their article to review. Color proofs will be provided for art physically printing in color if author consent is received by the requested due date. Reprints of individual articles are available for order at the time authors review page proofs. A discount on reprints is available to authors who order before print publication.
