Instructions for Authors

Manuscript Submission
Papers for consideration should be sent to the Editor, Elizabeth Shepard at uczcw09@ucl.ac.uk
Authors are encouraged to submit manuscripts electronically. Electronic submissions should be sent as email attachments using a standard word processing program. If email submission is not possible, please send an electronic version on disk.
This journal does not accept Microsoft Word 2007 documents. Please use Word's "Save As" option to save your document as an older Word file type.
References. Endnote numbers should be placed in the text, following the end of a sentence unless there is a need to endnote a particular word.
Printed Works. These should have a full bibliographic reference at the first citation, following the style below:
H. Gee, The Elizabethan Clergy and the Settlement of Religion, 1558-1564 (Oxford, 1898), pp 35-36.
H. Robinson (ed.), The Zurich Letters (Cambridge, 1842-45), vol 1,
p 23.
P. Hair, 'The chapel in the English landscape', The Local Historian,
vol 21 (1991), p 7.
Subsequent citations should use short titles and not ibid.or op. cit.
The Journal of the Society of Archivists should always be cited as in the following example:
E. Higgs, 'Household and work in the nineteenth-century censuses of England and Wales', JSA, vol 11 (1990), pp 75-76.
Manuscripts. These should be cited by repository and reference code. The repository name should be abbreviated after the first citation. Where all manuscripts are in one repository, the repository title need only be given at the first citation. Reference codes should follow the conventions used in the relevant repository.
Quotations. These should be in modern English, with standardised spelling and punctuation, unless the original language, punctuation, etc. is required for textual discussion.
Place names should use the standard English form if one is in common use; otherwise the local modern spelling should be used. Surnames should adopt the standard modern form.
Acronyms should be preceded by the title in full.
Proofs will be sent to authors if there is sufficient time to do so. They should be corrected and returned to the Editor within three days. Major alterations to the text cannot be accepted.
