Journal of Mathematical Sociology
Instructions for Authors
Notes for Contributors
The Journal of Mathematical Sociology publishes articles in all areas of mathematical sociology. The journal also welcomes papers in areas of mutual interest to sociologists and other social and behavioral scientists, as well as papers that may encourage fruitful connections between sociology and other disciplines. Articles dealing primarily with the use of mathematical models in social science, the logic of measurement, computers and computer programming, applied mathematics, statistics, or quantitative methodology are welcome insofar as they make some contribution to the understanding of substantive social phenomena. The editors will consider speculative articles that are not mathematical but are sufficiently precise, general, and abstract to stimulate mathematical treatment of problems that have heretofore been dealt with only verbally. Reviews of new or developing areas of mathematics and mathematical modeling that may have significant applications in sociology will also be considered.
Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been previously published and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are encouraged to submit a list of up to three competent reviewers with no conflicts of interest along with their papers. The editor may use some of these reviewers. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for this transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.
All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten, double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. Every effort will be made to maintain anonymity during the refereeing process. Therefore, only the first page of the manuscript should contain the author's name, affiliation, and correspondence address. Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of no more than 120 words. Include a list of six key words to be used for database word searches, and the names and addresses of up to three competent reviewers who would not have a conflict of interest in reviewing the manuscript.
