Indian Chemical Engineer
Journal of the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers
Instructions for Authors
Papers presenting original research work and conforming to the aims and scope of Indian Chemical Engineer (ICE) are invited for possible publication in ICE. It is a condition of publication that manuscripts submitted to the ICE have not been published and will not be simultaneously submitted or published elsewhere. By submitting a manuscript, the authors agree that the copyright for their article is transferred to the IIChE, if and when the article is accepted for publication. The copyright covers the exclusive reprints, photographic reproductions, microform or any other reproductions of similar nature and transactions. Soft copies of all papers, not under consideration for publication elsewhere, should be submitted to the Editor only as mail attachment, preferably in .DOC format. Under no circumstances papers submitted as hardcopies by post or courier will be considered for reviewing and publication in the journal. Kindly send your softcopy submissions to the following address:
Editor, ICE
The length of a paper should be limited to 10 printed pages or 20 typed pages double-spaced, including figures and tables. Authors are requested to adhere to this page limit. Each paper must be accompanied with a covering letter from the corresponding author mentioning the category of consideration (sections and full/short communication) and names of four reviewers (preferably experts in the area the paper relates to) with their respective complete contact details (mailing address, phone and fax number(s), e-mail address etc.). The final decision about choice of reviewers and acceptance of each paper lies solely with the Editor. Papers complete in all respects should be submitted in the format described below.
Acceptance of Paper
Upon acceptance of a paper for publication, the complete manuscript should be submitted to the Editor in one hardcopy and one softcopy on a CD-Rom. The manuscript – containing error-free text, acknowledgement(s), figures (originals) and tables with relevant legends and captions, respectively, and complete literature references – should be as per the layout obtainable from the publisher.
Paper Format
Each paper should include the following components in the indicated format:
Title
The title of the paper should be brief and informative. A short title may also be provided for the folio line.
Author(s) Details
Complete name(s) and affiliation(s) of respective contributor(s) along with the address where the work was carried out should be inserted below the title. If the current address of the author(s) is different, it should be given as a footnote on the title page. The corresponding author should be identified and his/her contact details (phone and fax number(s), e-mail address) should be provided.
Abstract
It should state the objective of the work and summarise the results giving their theoretical and practical significance, as specifically as possible, in not more than 200 words.
Keywords
Not more than five meaningful keywords should be selected from the paper. Each keyword should consist of not more than three words.
Nomenclature
It should contain the complete list of symbols and Greek letters, along with their respective definitions and dimensions. Consistent units (in SI) of measurement must be used throughout the paper.
Text
In the beginning it should contain an introduction, describing the relevant previous work and objective of the present investigation. It should be assumed that the reader is a beginner in the field. The experimental part should describe, precisely, the materials, methods and experimental set-up. Mathematical development should be described in the model section in a concise manner. Proper references should be added instead of giving details if they are available in books or journals. The results and discussion section should briefly report and explain the data through tabulated or graphical form and photographs. Any previous issue may be consulted to get an idea about the general style of presentation of results and discussion and conclusions.
Tables
All the tables, mentioned at appropriate places in the text, should be submitted on separate sheets, numbered serially in Arabic numerals. Each table must be accompanied with an appropriate caption. Tables should present data in a clear manner.
Figures
All the figures, mentioned at appropriate places in the text, should be numbered in Arabic numerals. The figures should be clear and easily reproducible drawing(s)/illustration(s), carefully made using standard software(s) like Corel Draw, MS Power Point, Paint Brush etc. Photographs, if unavoidable, should be supplied on glossy paper or high quality .JPEG or .TIF format. In case of graphs, the coordinates should be indicated on the margins of the graph paper. Each figure must be accompanied with an appropriate caption. While submitting the originals/printouts, ensure that each is serially numbered and the author's name and title of the paper is mentioned at the back of each figure/photograph. Hand drawn graphs and figures are not acceptable. A list of all the figures and tables captions should be separately typed and sent along with the full paper.
Mathematical Equations and Chemical Formulae
These should be embedded in the text using software(s) like Microsoft Equation Editor or Latex. Complete equations, chemical reactions and structural diagrams should be clear and correctly typed. Subscripts and exponents must be accurately placed. The equations should be numbered consecutively (use of sub-numbers should be avoided). Hand written equations and formulae are not acceptable.
References
References, in the text, should be indicated by giving the number in square brackets. Literature should be listed and numbered at the end of the text in the same order in which the references occur within the text. For example:
1. Plecas, I.B. and Pavlovic, R.V., “Leaching of Co-60 and Cs-137 from Spent Ion Exchange Resins in Cement-Bentonite Clay Matrix”, Bull. Mater. Sci., 26, pp. 699-701 (2003).
2. Levenspiel, O., Chemical Reaction Engineering, John Wiley & Sons, New York (1967).
Standard abbreviations (as used in Chemical Abstracts) should be used for a journal's name. In case of book(s), the edition, name of the publisher and place of the publication should also be given.
