Developing World Initiatives

Taylor & Francis Group is committed to the widest distribution of its journals to non-profit institutions in developing countries. Through agreements with worldwide organisations, academics and researchers in more than 110 countries can access vital scholarly material, at greatly reduced or no cost.

Taylor & Francis Group, which includes the imprints of Taylor & Francis, Routledge and Psychology Press, is delighted to be part of such initiatives that aim to increase dissemination opportunities for research produced in emerging nations and to bring this scholarly material to the global academic community.

Initiatives:

Special Terms for Authors and Researchers

STAR is Taylor & Francisí pioneering online access scheme for individual academic and scientific authors from emerging regions. STARís objective is to make top scholarly content - from Anthropology to Zoology, from Economics to Environmental Studies - more accessible during the authoring process to economically constrained parts of the world and to support regional contributions to the global knowledge economy.

Research4Life

Taylor & Francis is a participant in Research4Life, which is the collective name for four programmes - HINARI, AGORA, OARE and aRDI - that help to provide developing countries with free or low-cost access to academic and professional peer-reviewed content. Research4Life is empowering universities, colleges, research institutes, and government ministries as well as non-governmental agencies and hospitals, with access to scientific knowledge.

INASP and the Programme for the Enhancement of Research Information (PERii)

The International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications (INASP) works with partners to support global research communication through innovation, networking and capacity strengthening, focusing on the needs of developing and emerging countries. INASPís current programme focus is PERii which facilitates access to scholarly information and knowledge exchange in 23 partner countries and over 80 network countries around the world.

The Essential Electronic Agricultural Library (TEEAL)

A digital library of articles from many of the world’s best agricultural journals, including those from Taylor & Francis, providing access for institutions in eligible-income countries to thousands of articles and covering a broad range of subjects.

Association of Commonwealth Universities Low Cost Journals Scheme

The aim of the ACU Low Cost Journals Scheme is to facilitate the purchase of print journals at highly discounted rates in 17 countries across Africa.

Journal Donation Project (JDP)

Through an initiative at New School University, New York, libraries in 34 countries, including Eastern Europe and Africa, can purchase print and online subscriptions at highly discounted rates. The JDP is focused on the development of archives and on rebuilding major research and teaching libraries in countries that have fallen victim to political or economic deprivation.

AuthorAID

AuthorAID is an innovative author support and mentoring program coordinated by INASP. It assists researchers in emerging countries to communicate their work more effectively. The goals are twofold: to increase the success rate of researchers in obtaining publication and, ultimately, to increase the visibility and influence of research undertaken in emerging regions
